
Track & Field Earns Relay Medal on Day One of MAC Indoor Championships

MT. PLEASANT, MICH. – The University at Buffalo track and field program competed at day one of the 2026 MAC Indoor Track & Field Championships on Friday. The Bulls brought home a relay medal, posting podium placements in seven events and qualifying for the day two finals in nine more events.
The Buffalo men headlined the day with a silver medal finish in the men's distance medley relay. Collin Stafford, Michael Huebner, Aidan Norris and Noah Brightman finished the event in 10:07.91. The finish marks the second consecutive season where the men's program earned a medal in the event. Stafford and Norris were members of the relay team that won the event in 2025.
The Bulls earned sixth place on the women's side of the distance medley relay. Allison Newton, Juliette Salazar, Meghana Reddy and Bronagh Cassidy combined to finish the event in 11:49.84.
Cameron Bogdan was one of two Buffalo athletes who earned a top-five placement on day one. The junior earned fifth in the men's 5,000-meter with a time of 14:36.64. Jacob Brink trailed to take ninth (14:50.53).
Kara Moran was the second athlete to post a top-five placement for the program. The junior took fifth in the women's long jump with a mark of 5.78 meters. Linnea Neureuther (12th, 5.60m) and Uma Bhattacharjee (20th, 5.35m) also competed for the Bulls.
Micah Blair placed sixth in the men's long jump with a mark of 7.05 meters. The sophomore earned a podium finish in the event at indoor conference championships for the second consecutive season. Ryan Cardichon also posted a podium placement, finishing the event with a jump of 6.64 meters. Mitch Diamond rounded out the program's competitors, placing 11th (6.39m).
Krista Perry competed in the women's pentathlon for the Bulls, earning a podium finish by placing eighth of 14 competitors with a score of 3,422. The senior opened the competition by placing eighth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.96. Perry then placed 10th in the high jump (1.53m) and fourth in the shot put (11.84m). The senior rounded out the pentathlon by finishing 11th in the long jump (4.97m) and sixth in the 800-meter (2:33.90).
Kenneth Gulloso posted a seventh podium finish for the Bulls. The senior placed eighth in men's weight throw with a mark of 16.84 meters. Freshman Julian Vitucci also competed for the Bulls, placing 11th (15.71m). Loretta White opened the morning for the Bulls in the women's weight throw. The junior placed 18th in the event with a mark of 16.19 meters.
Brianna Urban finished 19th in the women's 5,000-meter with a new personal record time of 17:35.86. The senior's time joined the UB indoor rankings at 10th. Fiona Klingbeil also competed for the program, finishing 24th (18:37.45).
FINALS QUALIFIERS
Vassi Klock placed eighth in the women's mile with a time of 4:49.52 to qualify for Saturday's finals. Bronagh Cassidy (17th, 4:59.52) also competed for the Bulls.
Gemma Galligani qualified for the women's 60-meter hurdles finals with a time of 8.55 seconds to place third of 25 runners. The time tied the junior's personal best, which ranks fourth in UB indoor history. Neureuther placed 13th, also tying her personal record that ranks 10th in UB indoor history.
Michael Parks qualified for the men's 60-meter hurdles finals with a time of 7.90 seconds, finishing second in the field of eight. The time was a new personal record, with Parks remaining third in the program's all-time indoor rankings.
Rylee VanAlstine (4th, 49.57) and Keoni Chong (6th, 50.02) qualified for the men's 400-meter finals by placing inside the top eight sprinters in the field of 12 runners. Kala'I Makanani placed ninth with a time of 50.56, missing the finals cut by less than half of a second (50.19).
Sam Mellinger qualified for the men's 60-meter finals, placing eighth in the preliminary round with a time of 6.95 seconds. The junior was less than a tenth of a second shy of his personal record in the event (6.88).
Huebner (5th, 1:54.63) and Norris (1:54.68) qualified for the finals round of the men's 800-meter. The two Buffalo runners placed within two seconds of the first-place finisher in the preliminary round (1:53.10).
Freshman Matthew Schaffert qualified for the 200-meter finals with a time of 22.12, tying his personal record. Schaffert trailed the first-place finisher by just over half of a second (21.60).
