
Bulls Bring Home Five Medals on Day Two of MAC Indoor Championships

MT. PLEASANT, MICH. – The University at Buffalo track and field program competed at day two of Mid-American Conference Indoor Championships on Saturday. The Bulls earned five medals on the second day of competition and nine more podium placements. Additionally, Dominic Weatherly was named the MAC Indoor Freshman Field Performer of the Year.
Michael Parks headlined the day for the Bulls, defending his MAC title in the men's 60-meter hurdles with a new school record time of 7.83 seconds. Parks is now the only Buffalo runner to win the event more than once at MAC Indoor Championships, bringing the Bulls their fifth gold medal in the event all-time.
The Bulls had three athletes earn podium placements in the men's triple jump. Micah Blair earned a silver medal in the event, posting a personal best mark of 14.58 meters. The mark also ranks 10th in UB indoor history. Blair's medal marks his second podium placement of the weekend, also finishing top eight in the men's long jump on day one. Nicalis Williams finished the event with a mark of 14.58 meters too, taking bronze. Mitch Diamond rounded out the Bulls' competitors in sixth place, posting a mark of 13.92 meters. Williams and Diamond are freshmen.
Aidan Norris earned a bronze medal in the men's 800-meter with a time of 1:53.28. Norris trailed the gold medalist runner by less than a second (1:52.47). The top-three placement marked Norris' fourth MAC medal of his career, despite being only a sophomore. Freshman Michael Huebner finished eighth in the event finals (1:57.58).
Ryan Cardichon medaled in the men's high jump, bringing home bronze with a personal best mark of 2.08 meters. The sophomore's mark rose the UB indoor rankings to take sixth in program history. Cardichon's medal marks the first of his career. Junior Tyler Norton placed sixth with a mark of 1.91 meters. Daniel Richardson also competed for the Bulls, placing ninth (1.86m).
Vincent Guaresimo (4th, 4:12.56) and Luke Stoeffler (8th, 4:20.21) earned podium placements in the men's mile. Guaresimo trailed the bronze medalist by a second and a half (4:11.08). Noah Brightman also competed for the Bulls, taking 13th (4:28.91). Vassi Klock earned a podium finish in the women's mile. The senior finished eighth in the event with a time of 4:52.49.
Rylee VanAlstine placed fourth in the men's 400-meter with a time of 49.77. Freshman Keoni Chong missed the top-six podium cut (49.80) by less than two tenths of a second, posting a time of 49.95.
Brian Murphy finished fourth in the men's pole vault, posting a season-best mark of 4.90 meters. The graduate student was just shy of his personal best in the event (4.91m) that ranks fourth in UB indoor history.
Weatherly finished fifth in the men's shot put, earning a podium placement with a new personal record throw of 16.05 meters. Weatherly crushed his previous best in the event (15.31m) and was named the MAC Indoor Freshman Field Performer of the Year. Aiden Walker placed ninth (14.93m) and Bryson Bodner finished 10th (14.90m).
Linnea Neureuther placed sixth in the women's triple jump. The sophomore finished the event with a mark of 12.40 meters. Neureuther placed eighth at last year's outdoor championships in the event.
Gemma Galligani placed seventh in the women's 60-meter hurdles finals, posting a time of 8.61 seconds. Galligani tied her personal best time of 8.55 seconds in the preliminary round to qualify for the finals, which ranks fourth in UB indoor history.
Stella Kapp placed seventh in the women's high jump with a mark of 1.69 meters. The sophomore has earned a podium finish in all three of her conference championship appearances. Akuot Kuany placed 11th in the event (1.65m) and Adriana Ellsworth earned 12th (1.60m).
Freshman Matthew Schaffert finished seventh in the men's 200-meter dash. Schaffert finished the event with a time of 22.39, missing a podium placement by a tenth of a second (22.27).
The Bulls had three runners compete in the men's 3,000-meter. Cameron Bogdan placed seventh with a time of 8:22.65. Colling Stafford finished 10th (8:37.00) and Jacob Brink earned 12th (8:40.04).
Sam Mellinger placed eighth in the men's 60-meter dash. The junior finished the event in 6.97 seconds. Mellinger's participation marked his first finals appearance at MAC Indoor Championships.
Bernice Balk placed 23rd in the shot put with a mark of 12.00 meters.
The Buffalo women closed out day two by placing ninth in the 4x400-meter relay. Linnea Neureuther, Gemma Galligani, Sophia Sampson and Juliette Salazar combined to finish the event in 3:52.69. The women were just shy of their season-best time in the event (3:49.75).
The Buffalo men placed fourth in the 4x400-meter relay. The team of Keoni Chong, Matthew Schaffert, Ryle VanAlstine and Kala'I Makanani completed the event in 3:21.55.
