Women’s Basketball Closes Out Month at Akron on Saturday

BUFFALO, NY - The University at Buffalo women's basketball team closes out the month with a contest at Akron on Saturday at 12pm.
The game will be streamed on ESPN+ with Michael Reghi (play-by-play) and Jeff Phelps (color) announcing and can be heard on AM 1400 and the Varsity Network with Tanner Saunders on the call.
This is the 63rd overall meeting between Buffalo and Akron with the Bulls owning a 36-26 series advantage. The Bulls defeated the Zips in the lone matchup of the year last season.
Buffalo fell to Eastern Michigan 71-51 on Wednesday night at Alumni Arena. Freshman guard Aniya Rowe led the Bulls in scoring for the 10th time this season with 13 points to go with six rebounds and five assists. Fellow freshman Diann Jackson also scored in double figures with 10 points while notching seven rebounds, Janyah Bohanon scored nine points, and Meg Lucas added eight points and seven rebounds.
Rowe leads the Bulls offensively, averaging 12.1 points per game. She has scored in double figures 10 times and leads UB in three-point field goal percentage (.376) while also ranking sixth in the league in steals per contest (2.1). Freshman Meg Lucas is second in the league and ranks 28th nationally in rebounding (9.9 rpg). As a team, Buffalo leads the MAC and ranks in the top 35 nationally in offensive rebounds per game (15.0). UB is the only team in the conference to have three freshmen averaging 25+ minutes per game and are one of just two teams to have a rookie leading the squad in minutes played.
Akron is 3-17 overall and 0-8 in league play after falling to Bowling Green 80-62 on Wednesday. The Zips are led offensively by Ni'Rah Clark who is averaging 11.7 points per game. Shaena Brew (9.5 ppg), Monique Mitchel (9.3 ppg) and Keiryn McGuff (9.1 ppg, 5.9 rpg) are also main contributors.
The Zips have performed well at home this season as they average 76.6 points per game while shooting nearly 41% from the field and recording 40.6 rebounds, 12.5 assists, 7.0 steals and 2.0 blocks per contest. Akron is 35th in the NCAA in bench scoring (26.0), 48th in three-pointers attempted (24.5) and 53rd in in free throws attempted (20.0) per game. Additionally, Akron is averaging 31 points per game in the paint.
