1/27/2026 12:27:00 PM | Women's Basketball
BUFFALO, NY - The University at Buffalo women's basketball team closes out the home stand on Wednesday as they welcome Eastern Michigan to Alumni Arena at 6pm.
The game will be streamed on ESPN+ with Paul Peck (play-by-play) and Matt Mattia (color) announcing and can be heard on 1520 AM and the Varsity Network with Vinnie Christiano III on the call.
This is the 36th overall meeting between Buffalo and Eastern Michigan with the Bulls owning a 19-16 series advantage. The Bulls won both matchups a season ago.
Freshman guard Aniya Rowe had a career day, but it wasn't enough to complete the comeback as the Bulls fell to Kent State 84-74 at Alumni Arena on Saturday afternoon. Rowe led all scorers with a career-high 34 points, including a career-best 13 made field goals and seven made three-pointers, to go with six rebounds, five assists and four steals. Freshman Ella Corry also scored in double figures with 10 points.
Rowe leads the Bulls offensively, averaging 12.1 points per game. She has scored in double figures nine times and leads UB in three-point field goal percentage (.408) while also ranking seventh in the league in steals per contest (2.2). Freshman Meg Lucas leads the league and ranks 23rd nationally in rebounding (10.1 rpg). As a team, Buffalo leads the MAC and ranks in the top 35 nationally in offensive rebounds per game (14.9). UB is the only team in the conference to have three freshmen averaging 25+ minutes per game and are one of just two teams to have a rookie leading the squad in minutes played.
Eastern Michigan is 9-9 overall and 3-5 in league play after defeating Northern Illinois 72-62 on Saturday. It marked the first time EMU has won back-to-back MAC contests since 2023. The Eagles are led offensively by Preseason All-MAC selection Sisi Eleko who is averaging just under a double-double with 18.0 points and 9.6 rebounds per game. Freshman Peyton Hill (13.4) and senior Fernanda Ovalle (12.9 ppg) are also averaging in double figures while junior Ainhoa Cea leads the team in assists (103).
In MAC play, Eastern Michigan is second in the league in field goal percentage (.470), third in three-point percentage (.361) and free throw percentage (.731). They are also limiting their opponents to just 31.8 rebounds per contest, good for third best in league action.
Up next, Buffalo will close out the month of January at Akron on Saturday, January 31. Tipoff from James A. Rhodes Arena is set for 12wapm.
