BUFFALO, NY - The University at Buffalo women's basketball travels to Indiana for a clash with the Ball State Cardinals on Wednesday at 6:30pm.
The game will be streamed on ESPN+ with Sam Neiger (play-by-play), Max Gillie (color) and Dylan Budd (sideline) announcing and can be heard on 1520 AM and the Varsity Network with Vinnie Christiano III on the call.
This is the 41st overall meeting between Buffalo and Ball State with the Cardinals owning a 24-16 series advantage. The Cardinals won both matchups a season ago.
Buffalo put forth a strong second half effort, but the comeback fell short in a 71-59 loss to Ohio on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Arena. The Bulls were led offensively by a trio of freshmen as three rookies scored in double figures, led by Aniya Rowe who scored a career-high 20 points, 16 coming in the second half. Deana Thompson tied her career-high with 14 points for the second straight game, including 7-of-10 shooting from the free throw line and Ella Corry added 12 points. Freshman forward Meg Lucas continues to dominate on the boards as she notched 12 rebounds on the day.
Junior guard Paula Lopez leads the Bulls in scoring at 10.6 points per game. She has scored in double figures eight times and is third in the MAC in field goal attempts (182) while ranking 12th in field goals made (62). Lucas leads the league and ranks 19th nationally in rebounding (10.5 rpg). As a team, Buffalo leads the MAC and ranks in the top 25 nationally in offensive rebounds per game (15.7). UB is the only team in the conference to have three freshmen averaging 25+ minutes per game and are one of just two teams to have a rookie leading the squad in minutes played.
Ball State is 12-4 overall and 4-0 in league play after defeating Toledo 72-68 on January 7. The Cardinals are balanced offensively with three players averaging in double figures, led by Bree Salenbien who is averaging 15.3 points and 8.2 rebounds per game. Tessa Towers has recorded three double-doubles on the season and is averaging 13.8 points and 8.6 rebounds per contest and Grace Kingery is also averaging in double figures while leading the MAC in three-pointers made (40) and ranking sixth in three-point field goal percentage (40.4).
