Bulls Fall to Ball State in MAC Opener

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Buffalo Bulls volleyball team (3-7, 0-1 MAC) opened Mid-American Conference play on Thursday evening against the visiting Ball State Cardinals (5-8, 1-0 MAC). The Cardinals came away with the win, 21-25, 23-25, 17-25.
Emerson Matthews led the Bulls with 15 kills. She hit .324 on the night. Manoela Forlin added nine kills as Luli Arcucci had eight kills and a .333 hitting percentage. Maddie Mitchell finished with 32 assists and seven digs. Keira Kleidon also finished the night with seven digs.
The Cardinals outhit the Bulls, .430 to .236.
There wasn't a lot of action at the net as Ball State had a pair of blocks holding the Bulls to none.
SET 1
The Bulls fell into a 7-2 hole, but battled back to tie the set at 16. Unfortunately, Buffalo couldn't capture a lead in the late stages of the set as the Cardinals outscored them, 9-5.The Bulls hit .257, but Ball State hit .343.
SET 2
Emerson Matthews had a set-high seven kills in the second set, but it wasn't enough to get by the Cardinals. Ball State led wire-to-wire as Buffalo managed to only tied the set three times. The Bulls tied the set at 23 after forcing an attack error, but Ball State took the next two points to win the set.
SET 3
The Bulls couldn't slow down the Cardinals' offense as they hit .692 with just one attack error. Buffalo took a 4-0 lead, but once Ball State took a 7-6 lead, they didn't look back.

The Bulls will host the Miami RedHawks tomorrow at 6 p.m. The match will be streamed on ESPN+.
