Buffalo Women Place Sixth Among Large Field of Competition at Yellowjacket Invite

ROCHESTER, NY - The University at Buffalo cross country program competed in the annual University of Rochester Yellowjacket Invitational on Saturday morning. The Buffalo women finished sixth in the field of 24 teams in the 6k race, with eight runners placing inside the top 60.
The women's program was headlined by Leslie Villafuerte Castro, who placed 26th in the field of 249 runners with a time of 23:18.6. Four more Buffalo runners placed inside the top 40 to finish out the Bulls' top five, senior Lexi Bernard (33rd, 23:31.4), sophomore Sophie Brettholtz (35th, 23:35.5), junior Megan Smith (38th, 23:40.3) and senior Alexandra Cowley (39th, 23:44.6).
Ella Reilly (41st, 23:47.0) and Reese Wilber (49th, 24:00.4) also posted top 50 finishes. Freshman Megan Breslin rounded out Buffalo's runners, finishing 56th with a time of 24:16.3.
On the men's side, the Bulls had three runners compete. Kevin Sherry was the team's top finisher in the 8k race, placing 26th in the field of 312 with a time of 26:19.5. Fernando Sanchez was the next to finish, taking 122nd with a time of 27:50.2. Nicholas Hockenbury rounded out the men's competitors with a time of 29:10.2 to place 196th.
