Bulls Run Strong Races and Post Personal Records Among Regional Competition at Paul Short Invite

BETHLEHEM, Penn. – The University at Buffalo cross country program participated at Lehigh University's Paul Short Invitational on Friday afternoon, thriving amongst regional competition at the annual meet.
The Buffalo men placed 19th of 40 teams in the gold 8k race, finishing ahead of six programs from the Northeast region and six ranked programs from the Mid-Atlantic region. Jacob Brink was the Bulls' top finisher, taking 87th of 344 runners with a collegiate personal record time of 24:20.7. Noah Brightman was next to place for the Bulls, finishing 112th with a time of 24:36.1. Cameron Bogdan (120th, 24:38.2), Matt Gensel (137th, 24:46.4) and Collin Stafford (157th, 24:53.1) rounded out the Bulls top five. Gensel and Stafford also posted collegiate personal records.
The Bulls placed ahead six ranked programs from the Mid-Atlantic region, including Pennsylvania (6th), La Salle (10th), Monmouth (12th), Rutgers (13th), Dartmouth (14th) and Temple (15th). The Bulls also finished ahead of six teams in the Northeast region, including Rhode Island, Colgate, Siena, Fordham, Brown and Canisius.
Aidan Norris (187th, 25:07.9), Connor Domoy (236th, 25:28.6), Chris Turner (273rd, 25:49.4), Luke Stoeffler (285th, 25:57.6) and Kevin Sherry (328th, 28:03.3) also competed for the Bulls in the gold race. Domoy and Norris' times were collegiate personal records.
The Buffalo women finished fourth of 39 teams in the collegiate brown 6k field. Bronagh Cassidy was the first to place, taking 14th of 322 runners with a personal best time of 21:22.7. Vassi Klock also posted a top-20 finish, placing 18th with a personal best time of 21:29.5. Jacquie Appenheimer (48th, 22:03.0), Fiona Klingbeil (67th, 22:20.7) and Brianna Urban (68th, 22:22.1) rounded out the Bulls' top five.
The Buffalo women placed ahead of 15 Northeast region opponents, including Syracuse, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Colgate, Holy Cross, Stony Brook, Vermont, Stonehill, Wagner, Central Connecticut, Siena, Marist, Manhattan, Canisius and Le Moyne.
Paris Welker (89th, 22:35.9), Allison Newton (91st, 22:36.5) and Ciena Ferguson (100th, 22:40.2) also finished in the top 100. Lexi Bernard (190th, 22:36.3) and Leslie Villafuerte Castro (236th, 24:06.1) rounded out the Bulls' runners. Newton, Ferguson and Bernard had collegiate personal record performances.
The Bulls had several runners compete in the women's open 6k too. Megan Smith finished 45th in the field of 442 athletes with a collegiate personal record time of 22:22.6. Sophie Brettholtz (124th, 23:11.7), Reese Wilber (150th, 23:25.1), Kaitlyn Edinger (160th, 23:31.1), Ella Reilly (175th, 23:38.1) and Samantha Moury (180th, 23:40.7) all finished inside the top 200 runners.
