
Bulls Place Ahead of Regionally Ranked Programs at Penn State Spiked Shoe Invite

UNIVERSITY PARK, Penn. – The University at Buffalo cross country program competed at the Penn State Spiked Shoe Invitational on Friday morning, the second meet of the season for the men's and women's teams. The Bulls competed amongst national and regionally ranked competition, with both the men's and women's teams finishing ahead of ranked programs.
The Buffalo women placed fifth of 10 teams in the 6k race. Bronagh Cassidy was the top finisher for the Bulls, placing 23rd in the field of 112 with a personal record 6k time of 21:41.6. The senior was followed by Vassi Klock, who took 26th, with a personal best time of 21:45.2. Jacquie Appenheimer (34th, 22:06.7), Paris Welker (53rd, 22:39.1) and Allison Newton (59th, 22:49.8) rounded out the Bulls' top five. Newton's time was also a personal record.
Sophomore Ciena Ferguson (68th, 23:08.0), junior Brianna Urban (70th, 23:10.4), freshman Fiona Klingbeil (74th, 23:15.5) and sophomore Delaney Mansfield (96th, 24:03.7) rounded out the Bulls' runners.
The women's program competed against six regionally ranked programs and two nationally ranked programs at the meet, placing ahead of St Joseph's (14th) and Monmouth (15th), who are ranked in the Mid-Atlantic region.
On the men's side, the Bulls placed seventh of nine programs. Jacob Brink was the team's top finisher, placing 32nd in the field of 107 runners with a time of 25:50.0. Junior Cameron Bogdan followed, taking 47th with a time of 26:17.5. Matt Gensel (50th, 26:20.5), Noah Brightman (63rd, 26:41.1) and Collin Stafford (66th, 26:44.8) rounded out the Bulls' top five. Connor Domoy (85th, 27:12.1), Aidan Norris (88th, 27:17.0) and Chris Turner (99th, 28:07.6) also competed for the program.
The Buffalo men entered the competition ranked 13th in the Northeast region. The Bulls placed ahead of Temple, the ninth-ranked team from the Mid-Atlantic region. The men's field featured seven regionally ranked porgrams and one nationally ranked program.

The Bulls will next compete on Saturday, September 20th, at the University of Rochester Yellowjacket Invitational. The meet is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
