Bulls can’t Catch Fire Against Liberty in Season Opener

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Buffalo Bulls (0-1, 0-0 MAC) fell to the Liberty Flames (2-0, 0-0 CUSA) in front of their home Alumni Arena crowd of nearly 600 on Friday evening, 23-25, 20-25, 22-25.
Freshman Sydney Bell started her collegiate career with a bang as she had a match-high 12.5 points and 11 kills. Preseason All-MAC honoree Manoela Forlin finished the night with 11 points with 10 kills. Keira Kleidon tallied a match-high 10 digs with Maddie Mitchell adding a match high of her own with 24 assists. Emerson Matthews added eight kills to the cause.
SET 1
It was an offensive struggle for both teams as Liberty outhit the Bulls, .159 to .130. The momentum was with the Flames in the set as the Bulls didn't capture their first lead until the 20-19 mark. Buffalo looked to close the set leading 23-22, but they couldn't hold off Liberty as they score three straight points.
SET 2
It was all Liberty in the second set as the Bulls only managed to force a pair of ties. Both offenses clicked in the set as Buffalo hit .346, but the Flames managed to hit an astounding .552.
SET 3
It was a back and forth set as there were 12 ties and four lead changes. Buffalo's largest lead of the set came at 10-8 with their last lead coming at 14-13. The Flames forced a UB timeout as they went on a 4-0 run, but UB tied the set at 19. That was the closest the set got as the Flames outscored the Bulls, 6-3, to close the set and match. The Bulls finished the set with more kills than the Flames, 14-12, but unforced errors were the difference.
