Bulls Drop Doubleheader at Miami on Saturday

OXFORD, Ohio – The University at Buffalo softball team faced off against the RedHawks in a doubleheader at Miami University on Saturday afternoon. The Bulls dropped game one, 8-0, and game two, 10-2.
GAME ONE
The Bulls loaded the bases in the top of the first inning with two outs but were unable to capitalize leaving runners stranded. Reagan Terwilliger singled to right field and then advanced after a single from Isabella Smithson. Lily Lauck had the Bulls' third single to load the bases.
In the top of the second inning, the Bulls threatened again. Avelyn Van Heyst earned a lead-off walk, followed by a single from Ardyn Hopf. The Bulls couldn't capitalize, leaving both runners stranded.
The RedHawks opened the scoring in the bottom of the second, taking a 3-0 lead. Miami then extended their lead in the fourth with a sacrifice fly to score another run.
The Bulls left two more runners on base in the top of the fourth. Hopf walked to reach base for the second time, followed by a single from Miranda Zipp.
The RedHawks added four runs in the bottom of the sixth to take the first game of the doubleheader, 8-0.
Genevieve Longsdorf pitched 5.2 innings for the Bulls. The freshman posted four strikeouts and just one walk.
GAME TWO
The RedHawks' momentum from game one led to a fast start in game two. The Bulls surrendered six runs through the first two innings.
In the top of the third, the Bulls responded. Terwilliger hit an RBI double to left field, scoring Van Heyst from third.
The RedHawks added another run to expand their lead to 7-1. The Bulls scored another run in the bottom of the fourth. Smithson led the inning off, reaching first base after being hit by a pitch. Lyla Ambrose reached base on a fielder's choice, but Smithson advanced to second after a Miami error. Another fielder's choice advanced Smithson to third. The freshman then scored on a sacrifice fly off of the bat of Van Heyst.
The RedHawks added a run to their lead in the bottom of the fourth and two more in the bottom of the fifth to end game two, 10-2.
The Bulls are scheduled to close out the season tomorrow in game three of the weekend series at Miami. The first pitch is scheduled for noon.
