Bulls Fall To RedHawks in Series Finale

OXFORD, Ohio – The University at Buffalo softball team closed out its regular season on Sunday at Miami University. The Bulls fell to the RedHawks in the series finale, 4-2.
Abbey Nagel got the Bulls off to a strong start with a two-run home run to right field in the top of the first inning. Emily Gorman singled to lead off the game, with Reagan Terwilliger then taking her spot at first after a fielder's choice. Nagel stepped to the plate with one out and put the Bulls ahead early.
The Bulls surrendered three runs in the bottom of the first, giving the RedHawks a 3-2 lead.
The Bulls threatened again in the top of the fourth. Avelyn Van Heyst hit a lead-off single to center field. With two outs, Lily Lauck pinch-hit. Lauck reached base after being hit by a pitch, putting runners on first and second. The Bulls were unable to capitalize, leaving two runners stranded. The Bulls left eight runners on base through seven innings.
The RedHawks added to their lead in the bottom of the fourth with a solo home run, extending their lead to 4-2.
Olivia Russ pitched four innings for the Bulls, allowing just one earned run on four hits. The sophomore didn't walk a single batter. Freshman Malena Toth took the mound in the bottom of the sixth, blanking the RedHawks.
