CLEVELAND, OHIO – The Mid-American Conference announced on Tuesday morning that Aiden Walker and Akuot Kuany of the University at Buffalo track and field program have earned MAC Field Athlete of the Week honors.
Walker, a junior thrower, was named the MAC Men's Field Athlete of the Week after a strong weekend at the Geneseo Spring Opener. The junior won both the men's discus throw and the shot put (14.99m), breaking the Bulls' discus school record. Walker's mark of 57.26 meters surpassed the long-standing record of Matt Gac (56.39m) set in 2010. The junior's personal best discus throw ranks atop the MAC and the NCAA Northeast region.
Kuany, a freshman jumper, was named the MAC Women's Field Athlete of the Week. The freshman won the women's high jump at the Geneseo Spring Opener with a mark of 1.74 meters, joining the UB outdoor ranks to take sixth all-time. Kuany's mark in her outdoor debut ranks second in the conference and third in the NCAA Northeast region. Kuany has now been named the MAC Field Athlete of the Week twice in her freshman campaign, first doing so in the indoor season.
