Bulls Host Akron on Wednesday for Final Home Stand of the Season

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The University at Buffalo softball team (16-29, 9-13 MAC) will host the Akron Zips (25-21, 12-8 MAC) for a doubleheader at Nan Harvey Field on Wednesday. This will be the final home games of the season as the Bulls will close the season at Miami (OH) on Saturday and Sunday. Fans, be sure to stop by as there will be hot dogs at tomorrow's game!
On the season, freshman Emily Gorman leads the Bulls with a .432 batting average which is good for second in the MAC and 59th in the NCAA. Her .516 on base percentage is second in the MAC and 56th in the NCAA. Junior first baseman Abbey Nagel leads the team with 49 hits, including a team-high 7 home runs and 18 extra base hits. Freshman Isabella Smithson is up to 5 dingers and a team-high 35 RBIs on the season. Lily Lauck is the program's single season walks leader with 37 this season. Her 0.82 walks per game is 19th in the country and second in the MAC.
The Bulls are coming off a great week as they went 4-1 against Canisius and Ball State. After sweeping the Golden Griffins, 4-3 and 4-0, the Bulls went to Muncie, Ind. and nearly swept the Cardinals. Buffalo won the first two games, 6-3 and 5-3, but fell in the final game of the series, 3-2. Reagan Terwilliger led the Bulls from the plate on the week as she went 6-for-17 with 5 runs scored. Abbey Nagel added 5 hits and 5 RBIs. In the circle, Olivia Russ had a great week. In five appearances on the week, she went 2-0 in both starts while picking up a pair of saves. In 16.1 innings of work, she allowed just 3 earned runs for an ERA of 1.28. She held her opponents to a .193 batting average as she struck out 12 batters while allowing only 11 hits.

NOTES: The Zips enter Wednesday's doubleheader with an overall record of 25-21 and 12-8 in MAC play, good for fifth in the conference. The Bulls and Zips did not meet last season due to weather in Akron. The Zips have won the last 7 games against the Bulls as Buffalo's last win came on March 20, 2021, in a 7-2 decision at Akron.
