Bulls 2, Akron Zip in Final Home Game of the Season

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The University at Buffalo softball team (17-30, 10-14 MAC) split their doubleheader against the Akron Zips (26-23, 13-9 MAC) on Wednesday afternoon at Nan Harvey Field. The Zips came away with a 5-3 win in the first game of the day, but the Bulls shutout their opposition in game two, 2-0.
GAME 1
The Bulls fell in the first game of the day, 5-3, as they were outhit by the Zips, 12-6. Akron scored in the first inning on an RBI double to left center. The Bulls tied the game in the bottom of the first. Reagan Terwilliger hit her fourth triple of the season followed by an RBI groundout by Abbey Nagel.
In the bottom of the third, Terwilliger hit her fifth triple of the season. This tied the program record for most triples in a single season. Unfortunately, she was stranded at third as the Bulls trailed, 2-1, after the third.
Akron took the lead on a sacrifice fly in the third and added to it in the fifth with a solo home run to lead 3-1. Emily Gorman helped cut into Akron's lead with an RBI double in the fifth. An Akron solo home run gave them a 4-2 lead in the sixth inning. Lily Lauck grounded out to score Nagel that cut the deficit in half at 4-3.
The Zips shut the door on the Bulls as an RBI single to center put them in front, 5-3.
GAME 2
The Bulls came away with a 2-0 win in their final home game of the 2025 campaign. Each team had 5 hits, but a solo blast by Abbey Nagel in the fourth and a solo homer by Emily Gorman in the sixth propelled the Bulls to victory.
Olivia Russ continued to dominate in the circle as she threw a complete game shutout striking out 3 Zips.
The Bulls will close the season at Miami (OH) this weekend.
