GAME 1
The Bulls and Rockets combined for 35 total runs in the first game of that day that took 3 hours and 51 minutes to decide. The Bulls combined to break six program records in the first game of the day. The Bulls set four team records with 21 runs scored (19 vs. Southern, 2/7/14), 20 RBIs (18 vs. Southern, 2/7/14), 11 runs in a single inning (9 vs. Toledo, 4/6/12) and 12 walks (10 at Akron, 3/19/21). Reagan Terwilliger set the program record for most runs scored in a game with 5 (4, three times) as Abbey Nagel tied the single game home run record with 2. Nagel's 2 home runs make it the 14th time in program history a Bull has hit 2 homers in a game.
The Rockets scored in the first on a solo homer, but that was just a splash in the water to what the Bulls were about to do in the bottom half of the inning. Nagel cranked a 2-run homer to put the Bulls in front, 2-1, and it was just the beginning. The Bulls scored 11 total runs in the first inning on just 4 hits as they were walked 10 times in the inning, including 7 straight.
The Bulls added to their lead in the bottom of the second as Lily Lauck hit a 2-run home run that scored Terwilliger. Buffalo led 13-1 after the second.
Toledo had an inning of their own as they went on to score 7 runs on 5 hits and 2 walks. The Rockets cut into the Bulls' lead to make it 13-8. The Bulls added 3 runs to their cause as Emily Gorman hit an RBI double to left and Nagel tripled to left that scored 2. The Bulls led 16-8 after the third.
A rare occurrence in the fourth inning where neither team scored.
The Rockets scored 3 runs in the fifth inning to make it 16-11. Isabella Smithson got a run back for the Bulls as she hit an RBI single up the middle.
Toledo scored 3 runs in the sixth inning due to a pair of home runs as they tightened the game up at 17-14.
Buffalo bounced back as they scored 4 runs on 4 hits in the bottom half of the sixth. The Bulls led 21-14 headed into the final inning.
Olivia Russ shut the door on the Rockets as she struck out the side.
Nagel led the team with 7 RBIs as she was 4-for-5 from the plate with a single, triple and a pair of home runs. Smithson (3), Gorman (2), Alyssa Wasielewski (2), Ardyn Hopf (2) and Terwilliger (2) each had multi-hit performances.
GAME 2
The scoring calmed down in the second game of the day as the Bulls won, 8-2.
Buffalo was off to the races in the first inning as they scored 4 runs. Avelyn Van Heyst forced a bases loaded walk to give them the early 1-0 lead. Ava Thelen followed suit with a walk of her own. Miranda Zipp single to the pitcher, but on the throw, the first basemen let it go by that scored a pair for the Bulls.
After a scoreless second inning, Toledo got on the board with an RBI double to left center. The Bulls answered in the bottom of the third as Miranda Zipp stole both second and third which led to her scoring on a wild pitch.
In the fourth, Isabella Smithson smashed a 3-run home run to left center to put the Bulls ahead, 8-1.
The Rockets went down with a whimper as they scored just one run the rest of the way.
Olivia Russ went the distance in the circle as she allowed 2 runs on 5 hits and 2 walks while striking out a pair. Zipp and Nagel led the Bulls with 2 hits each.
The Bulls and Rockets will close their weekend tomorrow at noon.
