BUFFALO, N.Y. – The University at Buffalo and Women's Volleyball Head Coach Scott Smith have agreed to a multiyear contract extension through 2028, Vice President and Director of Athletics Mark Alnutt announced on Thursday.
"I'm very pleased to award Scott Smith a multiyear contract," stated Alnutt. "Since hiring Scott in 2019, our volleyball program here at UB has evolved to a consistent top contender in the Mid-American Conference. We've experienced much success both on and off the court which is a testament to Scott's leadership and his ability to recruit high level student-athletes. As the popularity of NCAA Women's Volleyball continues to grow, I'm excited about UB being in the forefront of that growth here in Western New York."
Smith has been with the women's volleyball program since the 2015 season and has been at the helm since 2019. In his time at UB, he has turned the program into a yearly contender in the Mid-American Conference. The last three seasons, the Bulls have gone a combined 58-39 (.598) while going 35-19 (.648) in conference play. The best three-year stretch in program history.
In 2022 and 2023, the Bulls earned invitations to the National Invitational Volleyball Championship (NIVC), the program's first ever Division I postseason appearances. He has helped Buffalo earn 24 postseason All-MAC honors in his tenure including a program-record five honors in the 2023 campaign.
Off the court, the UB women's volleyball program earned a record seven Academic All-MAC selections this past season to go with a team GPA of 3.621 in the fall semester. In total, Smith and his staff have guided 36 student-athletes to Academic All-MAC honors.
"My family and I are incredibly grateful to be at a university that values and supports women's volleyball," stated Smith. "I am very appreciative of President Tripathi, Mark Alnutt, D'Ann Keller, and my sport supervisor, Kelly Cruttenden for the trust they have placed in me to continue leading the Bulls.
"We are thankful to be supported by a great community here in Buffalo. I am excited to continue growing UB volleyball and closing in on the program's first MAC championship!"
