2/3/2025 2:20:00 PM | Men's Basketball
BUFFALO, N.Y. – The University at Buffalo men's basketball team (7-14, 2-7 MAC) will travel to Toledo, Ohio for a Tuesday evening clash against the Toledo Rockets (13-8, 7-2 MAC). Tip-off will be at 7 p.m. on ESPN+. Josh Whetzel will be on the radio call on the Varsity Network or on the radio on Buffalo 1520/Rochester 1280.
LAST TIME OUT
The Bulls lost to the Ball State Cardinals on Saturday evening, 89-76. For the fourth time this season, the Bulls had five players score in double figures as they previously did so at Old Dominion (11/4/24), against Pitt-Bradford (12/3/24), and at Western Michigan (1/18/25). Anquan Boldin Jr. and Bryson Wilson led the way with 16 points each. Wilson recorded career-highs in points (16) and made threes (2). Ryan Sabol finished with 12 points with 2 threes as both Ben Michaels and Tyson Dunn scored 11 points.
Against the Cardinals, the Bulls attempted 39 three-pointers. This is tied for the fifth most in a single game in program history. The last time they attempted at least 39 threes was against St. John Fisher on Dec. 11, 2021, when they shot 40.
ABOUT THE SERIES
This will be the 37th all-time meeting between the Bulls and Rockets. Toledo leads the all-time series, 22-14. In conference play, the Rockets hold a 20-11 lead. Buffalo Head Coach George Halcovage III is 0-2 against Toledo as Head Coach Tod Kowalczyk is 11-10 against the Bulls including a meeting from the 2009- 10 season when he was at the helm at Green Bay.
The Bulls are 225-238 (.486) all-time in MAC games. In road MAC games, the Bulls are 90-142 (.388).
THE BULL-ETIN BOARD
Buffalo will face former Bull Isaiah Adams who spent two seasons in Buffalo from 2022-24. During his time in the royal blue and white, he started in 57 of 58 games played and scored 704 total points for 12.1 points per game.
In MAC play, Tyson Dunn is averaging a league-best 6.33 assists per game. Ryan Sabol is third in the MAC with 17.00 points per game.
This season, Ryan Sabol has made at least 3 three-pointers in 15 of the 21 games. In his career, he has made 130 three-pointers. He's creeping up the program's all-time three-pointers made list as he's 2 away from tying Sean Smiley (2005-10) for 10th all-time.
8. Rodney Pierce (2007-10), 137
9. Jeenathan Williams (2018-22), 133
10. Sean Smiley (2005-10), 132
11. Ryan Sabol (2023-pres.), 130
Ryan Sabol has made 68 three-pointers on the season that's first in the MAC and 20th in the country. His 3.24 three-pointers per game is a league-best and 15th in the nation. He is shooting 41.0% from deep on the season, good for 53rd in college basketball and third in the MAC.
After just 52 games played, Ryan Sabol is 80th in Buffalo's all-time scorers list with 595 points. He has scored a team-high 344 points on the season. He's one of the best scorers in the conference as his 16.4 points per game is second in the MAC and 138th in the nation.
Tyson Dunn is up to 123 assists on the season. He is nearing the all-time assist leaders list in Buffalo history as he needs 30 assists to tie Shannon Evans (2014-15) and Jarod Oldham (2013-14) for most assists in a single season. He's 30th in the country and first in the MAC in total assists. His 5.9 assists per me is 29th in all of college basketball and the best mark in the MAC.
UP NEXT
The Mid-American Conference will take a break from conference play on Saturday as Part II of the MAC-Sun Belt Challenge is scheduled. The Bulls will host the Georgia State Panthers (8-15, 4-7 SBC) at 2 p.m. on ESPN+.
