Bulls Host Eastern Michigan, Honor Kourtney Brown on Saturday

BUFFALO, NY – As the University at Buffalo women's basketball team (22-5, 11-4 MAC) turns the page to March, the Bulls will play three of the last four games of the regular season at home, beginning on Saturday as they host Eastern Michigan at 2pm. It is a special day at Alumni Arena as UB great Kourtney Brown will have her #10 jersey added to the Wall of Fame in a special halftime ceremony.
The game will be broadcast on ESPN+ with Howard Simon (play-by-play) and Matt Mattia (color) announcing and can be heard on 1520 AM and the Varsity Network with Jack Kreuzer on the call.
This is the 35th overall meeting between Buffalo and Eastern Michigan with the Bulls owing a slim 18-16 series advantage. The Bulls beat the Eagles by 20 in Ypsilanti earlier this season.
In a game that saw 10 ties and eight lead changes, Buffalo could not convert on a pair of late-game possessions as they came up just short in a 71-68 loss to Toledo at Savage Arena on Wednesday night. Three Bulls scored in double figures on the night, led by Chellia Watson who had a game-high 19 points. Sophomore Kirsten Lewis-Williams scored 17 points on an efficient 50% shooting from the floor and Noelani Cornfield added 11 points and five assists.
The Bulls, one of two MAC teams ranked in the top 15 of the Mid-Major Top 25, are led offensively by Watson who is averaging 20.3 points per game. Lewis-Williams is averaging 13.8 points per game while leading the team in rebounding (5.5 rpg) and Cornfield is also averaging in double figures at 10.6 ppg, while leading the team and ranking 23rd nationally in assists per game (5.5).
As a team, the Bulls lead the league in scoring offense (74.7), scoring margin (+15.3), field goal percentage (.456), and turnover margin (+7.7) while also ranking in the top three in scoring defense (59.4), field goal defense (.378), 3FG defense (.277), assists (16.4), steals per game (10.6) and free throw percentage (.776).
The Eastern Michigan Eagles are 2-24 overall, and 1-14 in league play, after falling to Miami (OH) 82-72 in overtime on Wednesday. Eastern Michigan is led offensively by Sisi Eleko who is averaging a double-double and leading the Eagles in both scoring (18.1 ppg) and rebounding (10.3 rpg). Olivia Smith (9.1 ppg) and Olivia Westphal (8.8 ppg) are also main contributors. Eleko has tallied 13 double-doubles on the season which leads the MAC and ranks 22nd nationally. She also leads the league and ranks 20th in the nation in rebounding (10.3) and is second in the MAC in scoring (18.1 ppg).
Eastern ranks fourth in the MAC in threes made per game (7.3). They have recorded 7+ triples in 17-of-26 games this season. The Eagles have recorded at least one made three-pointer in 129 consecutive games, the third-longest stretch since the start of the 1999-00 season.
Up next, Buffalo will embark on their final road trip of the regular season as they travel to Muncie for a rematch with the Ball State Cardinals on Wednesday, March 5 at 6:30pm.
