Bulls To Compete at MAC Indoor Championships This Friday & Saturday

BUFFALO, NY - The University at Buffalo track and field program is headed to Ypsilanti, Michigan to compete in the MAC Indoor Championships on Friday, February 28th and Saturday, March 1st. The meet is set to begin at 10 am for both days of competition.
The indoor conference championships return to Ypsilanti for the second consecutive season. The Bulls enter the familiar territory looking to build off their nine-medal performance from just a year ago.
Zahra Amos returns to Eastern Michigan to defend her gold medal in the women's high jump. The senior won the event last season and tied her school record indoor mark of 1.80 meters. The Bulls are also set to have Akuot Kuany and Stella Kapp compete in the high jump, both of which rank fourth in the conference this season with a personal best mark of 1.75 meters.
Luke Stoeffler looks to build off his third-place finish in the 5,000-meter from last year's championships. The Bulls took all three of the top spots in 2024, with Ryan Buzby winning the gold (1st, 14:36.50) and Alex Hislop earning silver (2nd, 14:45.43). This year Stoeffler will be joined by Matt Gensel who ranks sixth in the conference with a time of 14:33.44 and Connor Domoy (15:08.99).
Kevin Gabalski aims to secure gold in the men's heptathlon after earning a silver medal and a personal record score of 5,033 at Eastern Michigan a year ago. The senior set a new personal record of 5,155 at the Ashland Open this indoor season, winning the event in a field of 26 athletes. Gabalski's score ranks atop the conference this season. The senior will be joined by Brady Hughes who set a personal record of his own at Ashland (4,683) to finish sixth overall. Hughes' score was just shy of reaching the UB indoor all-time ranks (4,696). The sophomore's record ranks third in the conference this season.
The program also enters indoor championships with 14 newcomers.
Kuany is the clubhouse leader for the Bulls in the triple jump, earning a mark of 12.17 meters in her collegiate debut at the SPIRE Midwest Invite. The freshman's mark rose the indoor ranks to fifth all-time for the event while ranking sixth in the conference. Kuany is set to be joined by sophomore Kara Moran who ranks seventh all-time in the UB indoor ranks (12.07m) and ninth in the conference this season.
Freshman Aidan Norris ranks ninth in the conference in the men's 800-meter headed into indoor championships with a personal record of 1:54.09. The freshman's record is less than four seconds behind the conference leader (1:50.28).
Isa van Puffelen is set to compete in the women's pentathlon for the Bulls. The freshman set a personal record of 3,545 at the Ashland Open to rank ninth all-time in UB indoor history and fifth in the conference.
