Bulls Closed Out Georgia Classic on Saturday

ATHENS, Ga. – The University at Buffalo softball team (1-8, 0-0 MAC) closed their action at the 22nd Annual Georgia Classic against the Utah Valley Wolverines and App State Mountaineers on Saturday afternoon.
GAME 3 VS. UTAH VALLEY
The Bulls fell to the Utah Valley Wolverines in the first game on Saturday, 5-1. The game was scoreless after the first two innings, but the Wolverines broke through in the bottom of the third inning. Utah Valley scored a pair of runs off a triple and a single down the right field line.
The Wolverines added to their lead in the fifth off a popup and a bases loaded walk to make it a 4-0 ballgame.
In the sixth inning, Abbey Nagel doubled to start the inning followed up by a Lily Lauck RBI single up the middle. The Wolverines grabbed the run back in the bottom of the sixth to make it a 5-1 lead.
The Bulls threatened in the top of the seventh after an Avelyn Van Heyst single and an Emily Gorman walk. The Wolverines got out of the jam after a pair of ground outs.
GAME 4 VS. APP STATE
It was a pitchers' duel between the Bulls and Mountaineers. Genevieve Longsdorf and Sophie Moshos of App State were tossing shutouts through five innings of play. The Mountaineers got on the board first in the bottom of the sixth as they scored 3 runs on 2 hits and an error.
The Bulls made it al ballgame in the top of the seventh. Abbey Nagel doubled to left center followed by a Lily Lauck single up the middle. Isabella Smithson doubled to right center to score Nagel and advanced Lauck to third. With runners in scoring position, the Mountaineers managed to get out of the pressure situation and escape with a 3-1 win.
Longsdorf finished the day with 5 strikeouts and 2 walks with 0 earned runs on 4 hits allowed.
The Bulls are back next Friday at the Wofford Invitational. They'll face Wofford, North Dakota and Queens University of Charlotte.
