11/25/2025 10:32:00 AM | Women's Basketball
SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO - The University at Buffalo women's basketball will be escaping the cold and heading south to warmer weather for a pair of games at the Puerto Rico Clasico, hosted in Bayamón at the Coliseo Rubén Rodríguez. UB will face Longwood on Thursday at 2:30pm (EST) and Hampton on Saturday at 9am (EST).
Both games will be live streamed and available for a fee; links can be found both on the women's basketball schedule page at ubbulls.com and puertoricocollegesportstours.com. The game can also be heard on 1520 AM and the Varsity Network with Vinnie Christiano III on the call.
This is the first overall meeting between Buffalo and Longwood and just the second matchup between the Bulls and Pirates, with UB winning the lone previous meeting at Alumni Arena in 1995.
Buffalo fought to the end, but the rally fell short in a 64-57 loss to St. Bonaventure at the Reilly Center on Wednesday night. Junior guard Paula Lopez led the Bulls in scoring for the fourth straight game with 13 points to go with four rebounds and five assists. Freshman guard Deana Thompson scored a career-high 11 points and senior guard Anaya Coleman just missed out on double figures with eight points.
As a team, Buffalo leads the MAC and rank in the top 20 nationally in three-point field goal defense (.200). The Bulls also lead the MAC in offensive rebounding (15.0) and are averaging 13 second chance points per contest. UB is also averaging 37.2 total rebounds per game, good for fifth best in the league.
Longwood is 4-3 overall after dropping a pair of Power 4 contests at Virginia and most recently, Ole Miss, on Monday. The Lancers were picked to finish second in the Big South preseason poll after winning 22 games a season ago, including a trip to the Big South championship game and a WNIT postseason berth. Longwood returns nine players from a year ago and were one of just 19 schools in all of Division I women's basketball to not lose a player to the transfer portal. Junior forward Frances Ulysse leads the Lancers offensively, averaging 11.3 points and and 5.4 rebounds per game. Preseason All-Big South First Team selection Amor Harris is also averaging in double figures (10.0 ppg) and rookie guard Jesstynie Scott (8.9 ppg) is also a main contributor. The Lancers rank in the top 10 nationally in steals per game (17.4), turnovers forced per game (27.4) and turnover margin (+11.4).
Hampton enters the tournament with a 3-2 overall after defeating Delaware State 76-59 on Monday. The Pirates were picked to finish 11th in the preseason Coastal Athletic Association coaches poll. They return seven players from last year's squad, while adding seven newcomers, including two freshmen and five transfers. Junior guard Kiki McElrath leads the Pirates in scoring at 12.4 points per game. Fellow junior Kayla Lezama is also averaging in double figures at 11.4 points per contest. Hampton leads the CAA in scoring defense (52.0), steals per game (12.3) and turnover margin (+10.0) while ranking in the top five in assists per game (14.5), blocks per game (3.3), offensive rebounding (14.8) and three-point defense (.254).
Up next, Buffalo will return to Western New York to host Big 4 rival Niagara on Native American Heritage Night at Alumni Arena on Wednesday, December 3 at 6pm.
