Bulls Battle the Zips on Tuesday Evening

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The University at Buffalo women's volleyball team (4-9, 1-3 MAC) will stay on the road for their final match of a three-match road trip on Tuesday when they play the Akron Zips (8-7, 1-3 MAC). The match is set to begin at 6 p.m. on ESPN+.
The Bulls have won their last six matches over the Zips. Head Coach Scott Smith is 11-2 against Akron, but the Zips hold the overall series record at 31-26.
After falling to the Kent State Golden Flashes on Friday, the Bulls came away with their first conference win of the season over Ohio, 19-25, 25-21, 23-25, 25-17, 15-13. Emerson Matthews had a career night against the Bobcats. She finished with 25 kills and 27.0 points to go with her .315 hitting percentage. The last Bull to finish with 25 kills in a match was Manoela Forlin against Niagara (9/18/24).
In the five-set win, Maddie Mitchell recorded her fourth double-double of the season with 46 assists and 14 digs.
Sophomore middle blocker Ava Kanj had a solid outing against the Bobcats as she tallied six kills on 11 attacks for a .455 hitting percentage. Her stat line set career highs.
Over the course of the weekend, Matthews led the Bulls with 4.38 kills per set and 5.13 points per set to go along with a .232 hitting percentage. She also added 17 digs over the course of the matches.

• Preseason All-MAC honoree Manoela Forlin and Emerson Matthews have been the Bulls' one-two punch on the offensive attack. Through the entire season, Forlin is averaging 3.36 kills per set as Matthews has 3.24.
• Maddie Mitchell has four double-doubles on the season, including one against Robert Morris (9/20/25) where she recorded a career-high 16 digs.
• The Bulls currently have the sixth-best hitting percentage in the MAC at .204, good for 189th in the nation.
• The Bulls are 12-2 in sets where they reach 15 first, but are 3-30 when the opposition gets to 15 first.
