Bulls Close Out Month at Western Michigan on Wednesday

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo women's basketball team (16-2, 5-2 MAC) closes out the month of January at Western Michigan on Wednesday. It is "Class at the Court" at University Arena with tipoff set for 11am.
The game will be broadcast on ESPN+ with Evan Stockton (play-by-play) and Kevin Piel (color) announcing and can be heard on ESPN 1520 and the Varsity Network with Jack Kreuzer on the call.
This is the 33rd overall meeting between Buffalo and Western Michigan with the Bulls owning a 18-14 series advantage. The Broncos took the lone meeting between the teams at Alumni Arena a season ago.
Buffalo overcame a 13-point first half deficit to earn their fourth straight win, an 80-71 victory at Akron on Saturday afternoon. Four Bulls scored in double figures on the day, led by Chellia Watson who recorded 18 points, including a perfect 9-of-9 from the free throw line. Senior guard Noelani Cornfield scored 17 points, including 50% shooting from the floor and a perfect 7-of-7 at the charity stripe, to go with five rebounds and five assists. Senior forward Ariana Seawell was perfect from the floor for the second straight game for 12 points to go with six rebounds and fellow senior Terah Harness also scored in double figures with 12 points, including 4-of-7 shooting from behind the arc.
The Bulls, one of two MAC teams ranked in the top 15 of the Mid-Major Top 25, are led offensively by Watson who is averaging 19.4 points per game. Sophomore Kirsten Lewis-Williams is averaging 13.6 points per game while leading the team in rebounding (6.1 rpg) and Cornfield is also averaging in double figures at 10.3 ppg, while leading the team and ranking 29th nationally in assists per game (5.2).
As a team, the Bulls lead the league in scoring offense (76.3), scoring margin (+17.6), field goal defense (.365), 3FG defense (.263) and turnover margin (+8.0) while also ranking in the top three in scoring defense (58.6), field goal percentage (.447), assists (16.4), steals per game (10.5) and free throw percentage (.788).
The Western Michigan Broncos are 8-10 overall, and 5-3 in league play, after falling to Central Michigan 81-70 on Saturday. WMU is 5-4 at University Arena this season, including 2-2 in league play. The Broncos are led offensively by Marina Asensio who is averaging 13.9 ppg and a team-best 5.1 apg. Hannah Spitzley is also averaging in double figures (13.3 ppg) while leading the team in rebounding (5.4 rpg).
In MAC play, the Broncos lead the league in three-point field goals attempted per game (25.5) while ranking second in scoring defense (59.1) and three-pointers made per game (7.9), third in 3FG defense (.285) and fourth in steals per contest (9.0).
Up next, Buffalo opens the month of February with a pair of home games, beginning on Saturday, February 1 as the Bulls welcome Northern Illinois to Alumni Arena for the team's National Girls & Women in Sports Day game at 2pm.
