
Hamel Earns MAC Athlete of the Week Honors For The Second Time This Season

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Mid-American Conference announced Tuesday morning that University at Buffalo track & field student-athlete Tal Hamel has been named this week's Men's Track Athlete of the Week. The senior sprinter has now earned the honor twice this season.
At the SPIRE Midwest Invite, Hamel won the men's 400-meter dash with a new personal record time of 47.77. The senior's personal best rose the program ranks to take fourth all-time in UB indoor history. Hamel's time also ranks first in the MAC this season and third in the NCAA Northeast. The senior won the award a week ago following two new personal records at Akron's Al Campbell Invitational. Hamel's new personal record in the 200-meter (21.25) ranks second all-time, with his personal best in the 60-meter (6.80) earning fifth all-time.
The Bulls have now earned four MAC Athlete of the Week awards in just three meets this season. In addition to Hamel's honors, Kevin Gabalski and Akuot Kuany opened the season at Akron earning awards in their respective events. A full recap of Gabalski and Kuany's honors can be found here.
The Bulls are back in action this Friday, January 31st and Saturday, February 1st at the Penn State National Open.
