Bulls Fall Short at Colgate

HAMILTON, N.Y. – The University at Buffalo women's volleyball team (3-3, 0-0 MAC) lost to the Colgate Raiders (1-4, 0-0 Patriot) on Saturday evening for day two of the Ellis Rowland Memorial Tournament.
Three Bulls finished with double-digit kills. Katrin Trebichavska and Manoela Forlin each had 11 as Abby Leigh added 10. Trebichavska recorded her fourth double-double on the season with 11 kills and 11 digs. She also tallied four aces as she is now up to 16 on the season.
Keira Kleidon finished with a career-high 15 digs. Mandy Leigh had 35 assists on the night.
Tied at three to start the match, the Bulls rattled off a 4-0 run to take a 7-3 lead. Buffalo sustained a healthy lead, but the Raiders didn't go anywhere. With the Bulls leading 19-15, Colgate used an 8-0 run to take a 23-19 lead. Colgate won the set, 25-20.
The Bulls thumped the Raiders in the second set, 25-13. Buffalo outhit Colgate, .438 to -.034. Buffalo tallied 18 kills to Colgate's four.
The Raiders never trailed in the third set despite the Bulls having numerous runs in the set. Trailing 11-5, the Bulls went on a 5-0 run to make it 11-10. At 22-19, Colgate closed the set with three-straight points.
The Raiders took a 3-1 lead in the fourth, which extended to 8-2, but the Bulls stormed back. A 10-1 run gave the Bulls a 12-9 lead. Buffalo didn't trail until Colgate closed the set on a 5-0 run to win 25-22.
"We had a good game plan and executed it well at times," stated Head Coach Scott Smith. "We need to stick to what is working and continue to make adjustments as our opponents do. Colgate was hungry for a win and fought hard for it."
The Bulls are back in action tomorrow at 11 a.m. against UConn (5-0, 0-0 BIG EAST).
