
Bulls Fall to Intrastate Rival Stony Brook, 3-1

HAMILTON, N.Y. – The University at Buffalo women's volleyball team (3-2, 0-0 MAC) fell to the Stony Brook Seawolves (4-0, 0-0 CAA) on Friday evening, 3-1.
The Bulls were outhit, .197 to .133. the kill total was nearly identical as the Seawolves edged the Bulls, 47-46.
Katrin Trebichavska recorded her third double-double on the season with 10 kills and 17 digs.
Abby Leigh continued to be one of the nation's best hitters as she hit .533 with nine kills and one error on 15 attempts.
Manoela Forlin was a menace at the net as she with three blocks. She totaled a team-high 13.5 points. Maria Futey had a season-high 19 digs.
The Seawolves and Bulls battled it out in the first. Buffalo led 7-4 and extended it to 9-5 before Stony Brook tied it at 14. The Bulls took a 17-15 lead, but the Seawolves went on a 6-0 run to lead 21-17. Stony Brook took the set, 25-21.
The Bulls came back to ties the match at one set apiece with a 25-22 decision in the second set. With a back-and-forth set, Stony Brook led late at 17-14 after a 5-0 run. The Bulls, however, had a 5-0 run of their own to lead 22-19. Mandy Leigh topped the set off with a service ace for the Bulls.
The Bulls struggled offensively in the third set as they had a .000 hitting percentage. The defense kept them in the set as they held the Seawolves to a .161 hitting percentage. Stony Brook won, 25-17.
In a set Buffalo needed, they trailed until they took a 10-9 lead after a kill from M. Leigh. Trebichavska added a kill to make it 11-9. A 4-0 run gave Stony Brook a 13-11 lead. The Bulls and Seawolves would tie at 16 and 19 in the final stretch, but a 3-0 Stony Brook run gave them a 22-19 lead. The Bulls made it 24-23, but a Bulls' service error gave the Seawolves the win.
"Stony Brook was a solid team and we couldn't find our rhythm in any phase of the game tonight," stated Head Coach Scott Smith. "We made too many of our own errors to secure the win. We are learning a lot about our team right now and searching for the right connections. We have a lot of work to do."
The Bulls are back in action tomorrow at 5 p.m. as they face the Colgate Raiders (0-3, 0-0 Patriot). The match can be seen on ESPN+.
