BUFFALO, N.Y. – The University at Buffalo women's volleyball team (4-9, 0-0 MAC) will travel to Kalamazoo, Mich. to face the reigning MAC Champion Western Michigan Broncos (4-7, 0-0 MAC) to open Mid-American Conference play. The Bulls and Broncos will play on Friday evening at 6 p.m. followed by a 3 p.m. match on Saturday. Both matches can be seen on ESPN+.
The all-time series against Western Michigan has been a one-sided affair. The Broncos lead the series, 29-5, and have won the last four meetings. Buffalo's last win came on Oct. 12, 2018, in a 3-1 decision. Last season, Buffalo and Western Michigan only faced each other once. The Broncos won the contest, 3-1, on Oct. 27.
The Broncos are the MAC Preseason favorite to win the MAC title as they received 11 first place votes and nine tournament title votes. Last season, Western Michigan went 31-3 overall while finishing perfect in MAC play with an 18-0 record. In the NCAA Tournament, they swept the 7-seeded Auburn Tigers in the First Round. They fell to 2-seeded Louisville in the Second Round, 3-0.
Buffalo has struggled away from Alumni Arena and are still looking for their first win on the road.
The Bulls are coming off a pair of losses at the Sunshine Invitational hosted by Florida. On the weekend, Mandy Leigh passed Scout McLerran (2016-19, 3,887) and Lindsey Schlegel (2007-11, 3,889) for second all-time in assists.
