Bulls Fall to the Broncos in the MAC Opener

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The University at Buffalo women's volleyball team (4-10, 0-1 MAC) fell to the Western Michigan Broncos (5-7, 1-0 MAC) on Friday evening in the MAC opener, 3-0 (19-25, 21-25, 23-25).
Despite the Bulls having three players with double digit kills, the Broncos outhit the Bulls, .277 to .185. Katrin Trebichavska had a match-high 13 kills as Manoela Forlin added 12 and Abby Leigh finished with 10.
Maria Futey had 20 digs on the evening for a match high. A. Leigh led the Bulls with four blocks.
Every set was a battle between both squads. In the first set, a 6-2 run by the Bulls gave them a 9-7 lead. It was followed by a 4-1 run by the Broncos to retake an 11-10 lead. Buffalo led 15-13, but they couldn't hang on as Western Michigan went on a 5-0 run to take an 18-15 lead. Western Michigan won the set, 25-19.
In just the second set, there were seven total blocks by both teams. The Broncos got off to a hot start with a 5-1 lead. The Bulls tied the set at 11 after forcing an attack error. The offense couldn't find a rhythm until the backend of the set, but the Broncos won, 25-21.
The Bulls looked to extend the match with a third set win. There were 14 ties and seven lead changes in the set. Buffalo led 16-13 and looked to close out the set. Leading 23-21, Western Michigan closed the set on a 4-0 run to win, 25-23.
The Bulls and Broncos are back in action tomorrow at 3 p.m. on ESPN+.
