BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo cross country team is traveling down the I-90 to compete in the University of Rochester Yellowjacket Invitational this Saturday at 10 am. The Bulls are now participating in the annual meet for the fourth consecutive season.
The women will begin the morning of competition at 10 am with a 6k race, the same distance the team will run at the Mid-American Conference Championships later this season. Program Director and Head Coach Vicki Mitchell has emphasized the team's opportunity to compete and improve in the weeks leading to conference championships.
"We are capable of more than what we showed at the Penn State Spiked Shoe Invitational," said Mitchell. "As a team, we have a ton of potential. The first 6k race is always good to get done. We will look to improve from here over the six weeks ahead of MAC Championships."
The Buffalo women had a strong start to the season at Colgate's Harry Lang Invitational three weeks ago in the 5k race, placing second of five teams. In the first 6k of the season at the Spiked Shoe Invite, the women finished 16th against nationally and regionally ranked competition. Lacey Danilovitz has headlined the season for the Buffalo women thus far, being the first runner to place for the Bulls in both races.
The men had a strong showing in their first 8k race of the season at Penn State, finishing 11th of 18 teams and placing ahead of three regionally ranked programs in Monmouth, Lehigh and Bucknell. The Bulls also placed inside the top five in the Harry Lang Invite despite only having five runners compete in the race.
The University of Rochester Yellowjacket Invitational begins at 10 am on Saturday. Live results from the competition can be accessed here. Watch the races live on the University of Rochester's website here.
