BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo cross country program is set to compete at the Mid-American Conference Championships this Friday in Kalamazoo, Michigan, hosted by Western Michigan. The women's 6k race is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m., with the men's 8k slated for 12 p.m.
The Buffalo men and women enter conference championships following a strong showing at the Canisius Alumni Classic. The women placed second of 12 teams in the 5k race, with Meghana Reddy (4th, 18:06.1), Ella Reilly (5th, 18:07.0) and Sophie Brettholtz (9th, 18:22.9) all posting top 10 placements. Kaitlyn Edinger (16th, 18:52.7) and Reese Wilber (20th, 19:08.5) added top-20 placements as the Bulls finished a close second to Detroit Mercy. The Buffalo men finished fourth of 13 programs that competed, with four of their top five finishers being freshmen. Senior Cameron Bogdan led the way with a time of 24:53.1 to place ninth, followed by freshmen Evan Feider (13th, 25:03.3), Gage Feider (16th, 25:15.0), Caleb Feider (23rd, 25:25.9) and Andrew Green (25:26.6).
The Buffalo women feature an experienced roster of 18 upperclassmen and no underclassmen. "At every meet everyone knows exactly what we are doing," said junior Meghana Reddy. "We all know each other very well, so we are able to help and encourage each other a lot, which has been really important." The Bulls have utilized that experience throughout the season, posting a win at St. John Fisher in the season opening meet and second at Canisius.
On the men's side, the Bulls have a younger roster that includes six freshmen and three sophomores. The team still has upperclassmen leaders too, including Bogdan, who has been the program's top finisher in all three races this season. "It's been a cool season because the younger athletes have been so eager to learn," said Bogdan. "The expectations keep getting higher and higher, and they've met every single one." The Buffalo freshmen have accounted for 12 of the Bulls' top 15 finishers across the three races this season.
The Bulls begin action in Kalamazoo, Michigan, at 11 a.m. on Friday. All information regarding MAC Cross Country Championships can be found here.
