Bulls Head to Columbus, Ohio for the Sports Imports Classic

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The University at Buffalo women's volleyball team (3-4, 0-0 MAC) will travel to Columbus, Ohio this weekend for the Sports Imports Classic hosted by Ohio State. The Bulls will face the Wright State Raiders (4-2, 0-0 Horizon), the Ohio State Buckeyes (3-2, 0-0 Big Ten) and the No. 20 Miami Hurricanes (5-0, 0-0 ACC). Every match can be seen on the Big Ten Plus streaming service.
The Bulls will battle the Raiders on Friday at 4 p.m. Wright State leads the all-time series against the Bulls, 2-0. The first meeting dates back to Sept. 5, 1997. The last time the programs met was on Sept. 6, 2008. The Raiders are one of the best teams in the country when it comes to kills per set. They rank sixth with 14.58 kills per set. They're also 10th with 13.42 assists per set.
The Bulls will take on the Ohio State Buckeyes at 5 p.m. on Saturday. They have only faced each other once which occurred on Sept. 21, 2013, where the Buckeyes won the contest in a sweep. Ohio State enters the weekend with an attack percentage of .252, good for 61st in the nation. They'll have the top mark of participating teams with 2.28 blocks per set.
On Sunday, the Bulls will close out the classic against No. 20 Miami at 11 a.m. This will be the first ever meeting between the programs. Miami is in the top-25 in three categories. They're 10th in hitting efficiency (.296), 17th in aces per set (2.26) and 25th in assists per set (13.05). Last year in the NCAA Tournament, they defeated Northern Iowa, 3-1, but fell to the No. 1-seeded Wisconsin Badgers in the Second Round.
In the national rankings, Abby Leigh is 21st in hitting percentage at .462. Katrin Trebichavska is in the top-45 in five categories. She ranks second in total aces (19), 18th in aces per set (0.73), 21st in total points (119.0), 30th in total attacks (273) and 41st in total kills (96).
Following this weekend, the Bulls will host Niagara at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 18.
