COLORADO SPRINGS, CO – Fifth year defender/mid Olivia Bizzoni found the back of the net in the 67th minute to lead the University at Buffalo women's soccer team (4-0-2) to a 1-1 draw with Colorado College at Stewart Field on Thursday night.
The Bulls had their first look of the game in the third minute as Sarah Woods made a great run and played a nice ball across the goal line, but UB was unable to connect on the other end.
The Tigers answered less than a minute later as Tyler Rose took advantage of a UB miscue and found Brett Tsamasfyros who scored to give the hosts a 1-0 lead.
The Bulls had their first corner kick opportunity of the game in the 16th minute as Ellie Simmons played a great ball into box that was headed out by Kelly Severini to the foot of Maya Galko who one-timed a shot at Regan Wallace, but she made the save.
UB continued to move the ball into their final third as, in the 36th minute, Maya Ikewood played a ball out wide to Woods who played a ball across the box to the foot of Carolyn Hinkle, but Wallace made another save.
Later, Woods made another great run up the right side and fired a shot across the box, but Wallace came out and made the save. Then, in the final minutes of the half, Simmons took a corner kick and played a good ball in that found the head of Hinkle but her shot attempt sailed wide and the hosts would maintain a 1-0 lead at the break.
The Bulls broke through in the 67th minute as Bizzoni controlled the entire left side of the field by herself, beat her defender and drilled a ball top shelf over Wallace to tie the game at one.
Buffalo had several scoring chances in the final 20 minutes of action, including a ball from Woods off the cross bar in the 76th minute and another great look in the 86th minute as Bizzoni played a perfect ball into the box to the head of Woods but her shot attempt sailed high and the game would end in a draw.
The Bulls dominated the stat sheet as they outshot the Tigers 19-2 on the night, including a 5-1 edge in shots on goal and a 6-0 advantage in corner kick opportunities. Woods was named Player of the Game by the UB coaching staff for her efforts on the night.
"We've got to find a way to stop being our own worst enemy," said head coach Shawn Burke. "When we lack the details, we become very average. On the plus side, we battled through, created a ton of chances and gave us the opportunity to win the game. The next step for us is learning how to put these games away."
Up next, Buffalo concludes the road trip at Northern Colorado on Sunday at 1pm (EST).
