BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo cross country team is traveling to University Park, Pennsylvania to compete in the Penn State Spiked Shoe Invitational on Friday morning.
The Bulls participated in the annual meet in 2023, finishing fourth on the men's side and fifth in the women's race, competing closely with the nationally ranked competition. In 2024, Buffalo will have the same opportunity to make their mark.
On the men's side, the Bulls will compete against nationally ranked Syracuse, as well as 10 regionally ranked teams from the Mid-West, Mid-Atlantic and Northeast regions. The women's field features nationally ranked Syracuse too, with 14 regionally ranked teams.
The Bulls opened the cross country season at Colgate's Harry Lang Invitational, with the women finishing second of five teams in the 5k race. Lacey Danilovitz headlined the day for the Bulls finishing ninth overall in a field of 62 runners with a new personal record time of 19:01.02. From there it was both newcomers and returners who contributed, with freshman Brynn Bernard and graduate transfer Eliza Medearis finishing inside the Buffalo top five in their debut with the team. Staples of the Buffalo lineup in 2023, Bronagh Cassidy and Chloe Freeland rounded out the top five for the Bulls.
The Buffalo men took fourth in the season debut at Colgate, having only five runners finish due to injury. The men look to build off of last season's momentum heading into the Spike Shoe Invite, a season in which the Bulls reached the regional ranks. Ty Fluharty led the way for the Bulls in the season opener, finishing ninth in the field of 50 runners in the 6k race with a time of 19:58.8.
All results from the Spike Shoe Invite can be accessed here. The first race at the meet begins at 10am.
