BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo Cross Country team opens its 2024 season at Colgate University on Saturday at 11 am, competing in the Harry Lang Invitational for the third consecutive year.
On the men's side, the Bulls have 13 returning student-athletes and six newcomers. In 2023, the Buffalo men finished fourth of nine teams at MAC Championships, with Evan Hilbert earning All-MAC Second Team honors for his 13th place finish in the 8k race (24:44.25). Hilbert returns to UB as a graduate student for the 2024 season, looking to lead the pack for the Bulls.
The Buffalo men also have five of their top six finishers at MAC Championships returning for this season, including Hilbert, Sean O'Brien, Matt Gensel, Noah Brightman and Luke Stoeffler. The Bulls added freshman Hayden Parks to the roster too, who had three top ten cross country invitational finishes in high school and placed 12th at the Pennsylvania State Cross Country Championships.
The Buffalo women start their schedule looking to build on their improvements from the prior season. Four of the five top finishers from last year's MAC Championship will return for 2024, Bronagh Cassidy, Anna Recktenwalt, Vassi Klock and Lacey Danilovitz. Buffalo also added freshman Brynn Bernard to their roster, a two-time New York State Class-D State Champion. Graduate transfer Rachel Hirschkind also comes to Buffalo bringing distance experience, competing at SUNY Geneseo for the last four seasons and appearing at four New York State Cross Country Championships in high school.
The 2024 cross country season begins with the women's 5k at 11 am. All information about the Harry Lang Invitational can be accessed here.
