Bulls Outhit Bobcats but Fall, 8-3

BUFFALO, N.Y. β In the final home game of the 2024 season at Nan Harvey Field, the University at Buffalo softball team (15-28, 7-15 MAC) fell to the Ohio Bobcats (26-22, 14-8 MAC), 8-3. The Bulls finished with 11 hits to the Bobcats seven.

After putting the Bobcats down in order in the top of the first, the Bulls took the early 1-0 lead. With Alexis Lucyshyn on third and Abbey Nagel on first, the Bulls utilized the double steal and stole a run from Ohio.

The lead didn't last as Ohio tied the game on a pass ball with the bases loaded. In the same at bat, they hit a sacrifice fly to take the 2-1 lead. With two outs and runner on third, a lefty slap hitter smacked the ball into left field. The ball was hit down the line and went all the way to the fence which allowed her to score on an inside the park home run. Ohio led 4-1 after two innings.

The Bobcats added to their lead in the fifth inning on a fielder's choice to go up 5-1. In the following inning, Ohio extended their lead to 7-1.

In the bottom of the sixth, the Bulls had runners on the corners after Julia Tarantino and Avelyn Van Heyst hit back-to-back singles. Lily Lauch went up to the plate as the pinch hitter and delivered an RBI single to left to make it a 7-2 game.

The Bobcats scored in the seventh on an RBI double making it an 8-2 game. Mia Mitchell had the final hit at Nan Harvey Field this season with a solo home run to left field.

Mitchell, Tarantino and Van Heyst led the team with two hits each.

The Bulls will finish their 2024 campaign next week with a doubleheader at Canisius on Wednesday and a three-game series at Toledo over the weekend.
