
Lucyshyn Tosses Program Sixth No-Hitter at Hail Southern Classic

STATESBORO, Ga. β The University at Buffalo softball team (7-10, 0-0 MAC) split their double header at the Hail Southern Classic on Friday. The day started on a high note as the Bulls defeated the Winthrop Eagles, 1-0 after a no-hitter by Alexis Lucyshyn. In their second game, the Bulls fell to host Georgia Southern, 2-0.

GAME 1 VS. WINTHROP
To open competition at the Hail Southern Classic, it was a pitching duel between Buffalo's Lucyshyn and Winthrop's Megan Powell. Both pitchers threw no-hitters after five innings until the Bulls broke through in the top of the sixth. Abbey Nagel got the first hit of the ballgame with a single to center. Lucyshyn then walked in the next at bat to put runners on first and second with one out. Mia Mitchell flew out to left field, but the runners stayed put. Lily Lauck loaded the bases with a walk. With Tianna Williams at the plate, she forced a walk to score the eventual game winning run.

Lucyshyn continued to deal as she put away the final six batters in six straight at bats. She finished with nine strikeouts and two walks. Her no-hitter marked the program's sixth with Ally Power tossing the most recent one on March 27, 2018. Stacey Evens (May 8, 2004), Terese Diaz (April 14, 2010) and UB Hall of Famer Tori Speckman (April 5 & May 3, 2014) are the other Bulls to toss no-hitters.

GAME 2 VS. GEORGIA SOUTHERN
In game two against the Bulls fell to the Georgia Southern Eagles, 2-0. The Eagles scored their runs in the first inning off a double.

The Bulls were limited to just three hits against the Eagles with Madison Fernimen, Lyla Ambrose and Nagel each with singles.

Julia Tarantino threw six innings and allowed two runs on three hits while striking out one.

The Bulls are back in action tomorrow against Winthrop at 11 a.m. and will then play the Georgia Southern Eagles at 4 p.m.
