Bulls Travel to Georgia for the Hail Southern Classic

BUFFALO, N.Y. β The University at Buffalo softball team (6-9, 0-0 MAC) is set to begin their fourth and final tournament of the 2024 season on Friday. The Bulls will participate at the Hail Southern Classic hosted by Georgia Southern.

Buffalo enters the weekend with a 6-9 record after going 1-4 last weekend. Alexis Lucyshyn leads the Bulls offense with a .383 batting average and 18 hits. Abbey Nagel has seven doubles on the year with Madison Fernimen leading the way with eight RBIs. In the circle, Lucyshyn ranks 11th in the nation in strikeouts per seven innings with 10.2. The mark is good for second in the MAC. Her 1.69 ERA is 120th in the NCAA. She has thrown for six complete games on the year, two of which were good for shutouts.

The Bulls will open the tournament on Friday morning at 1 p.m. against the Winthrop Eagles. The Eagles enter the weekend with an 8-11 record. Emma Jackson leads the Eagles offensively with a .357 batting average. Jackson and Ansley Lee lead the team with seven RBIs apiece. Reese Basinger leads the team with a 2.40 ERA through 67.0 innings pitched. Winthrop leads the all-time series, 4-1. Β

UB will then play the Georgia Southern Eagles following their game against Winthrop at 3:30 p.m. Georgia Southern is 12-6 on the year. Emma Davis leads the team with a .442 batting average with Jess Mazue leading the way with 18 RBIs. Anslie Pettit leads the Eagles with a 1.50 ERA. This will be the first ever meeting between the programs.
