BOWLING GREEN, Ohio β The University at Buffalo softball team (10-12, 2-1 MAC) took the weekend series against the Bowling Green Falcons (2-15, 1-2 MAC), 2-1.
Β
In game one of the doubleheader, the Bulls' comeback fell short as they lost, 5-4. The Falcons took a 5-0 lead in the second and third innings after timely hitting. The Bulls started to come back in the fifth inning after Sara Kelly and Alyssa Wasielewski singled to start the inning. Madison Fernimen doubled to left center to score Kelly and move Wasielewski over to third to make it 5-1. Abbey Nagel hit a sacrifice fly to right field as Wasielewski scored to make it 5-2. Alexis Lucyshyn hit Fernimen in after a ground out to cut the deficit to 5-3. Mia Mitchell then hit a solo home run to center to make it a 5-4 ball game.
Β
Unfortunately, the rally started too late, and the offense couldn't get going again.
Β
The Bulls redeemed themselves in a big way in the second game of the day as they won, 13-2. Buffalo scored early and often to force the five-inning mercy over the Falcons.
Β
With the bases loaded in the first inning, Tianna Williams was hit by a pitch to force Nagel to score. In the second inning, it'd be Nagel hitting a run in as Fernimen scored off the RBI single to make it a 2-0 lead.
Β
In the third inning, the Bulls scored eight runs. Mitchell led the inning off with a walk, followed by a Williams single. Lyla Ambrose ripped a two-RBI double to left center to extend their lead to 4-0. After a Lily Lauck walk and Kelly single, the bases were loaded with Wasielewski up to the plate. She hit a sacrifice fly to make it a 5-0 game. Fernimen then hit a base clearing double to extend Buffalo's lead to 7-0. Fernimen later scored on a wild pitch to make it 8-0. Mitchell hit her fourth home run of the season with a two-run blast to give the Bulls the 10-0 lead.
Β
The Falcons threatened in the bottom of the third as they started off with a leadoff triple. Two batters later, Bowling Green got on the board to make it 10-1. The Falcons continued to put the ball in play as they scored again to cut the lead to 10-2.
Β
In the fourth, Fernimen's bat stayed hot as she drove a ball to center to score Lauck. Lucyshyn singled through the left side to score Wasielewski.
