Bulls Shutout Falcons in First Conference Game of the Season

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio β The University at Buffalo softball team (9-11, 1-0 MAC) shutout the Bowling Green Falcons (1-14, 0-1 MAC) on Friday afternoon, 3-0. Overall, the Bulls have won the last four meetings against the Falcons.

Alexis Lucyshyn went the distance for the ninth time this season for the Bulls. In the win, she allowed three hits and two walk, while striking out four Falcons. This marked Lucyshyn's 10th career complete game shutout, which is third in program history.

Buffalo wasted no time to get on the board in the top of the first inning. Madison Fernimen earned a leadoff walk followed by an Abbey Nagel single. Off the single, Fernimen moved to third to have runners on the corners for the Bulls. With Lucyshyn up to bat, Nagel stole second as Fernimen scored on a pass ball.

The Falcons threatened in the third inning as they had runners on first and second with no outs. However, the Bulls got out of the jam after a strikeout, fielder's choice and a groundout to first base to keep the score 1-0.

The Bulls added two insurance runs in the sixth inning. With the bases loaded, Fernimen ripped a ball to right field which caused an error by the right fielder. Scoring was Hannah McGonigle and Reagan Terwilliger to give Buffalo the 3-0 lead.

Bowling Green had no answers as they didn't reach base in the final two innings.
