STATESBORO, Ga. β The University at Buffalo softball team (8-11, 0-0 MAC) lost to the Georgia Southern Eagles on Sunday morning, 3-2. This was the Bulls' final tournament before conference play begins.
Β
Buffalo got off to a hot start as they took a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Madison Fernimen had a lead off walk, and advanced to second after a pass ball. After both Abby Nagel and Alexis Lucyshyn grounded out, Mia Mitchell hit a two-run home run to center to go on top 2-0.
Β
Both squads struggled to get the offense going as the game remained 2-0 until the fourth inning. The Eagles got on the board after an RBI single up the middle to make it a 2-1 Buffalo lead. In the fifth inning, Georgia Southern was threatening with runners on second and third with one out. The Eagles tied the game after a Bulls' obstruction call. In the next at bat, the Eagles took the 3-2 lead after an RBI single went through the left side.
Β
Buffalo looked to tie the game in the sixth inning after the first two batter got in base. Unfortunately, the Eagles got out of the inning after a pop fly and a double play to head to the bottom half of the inning maintaining their 3-2 lead.
Β
Julia Tarantino started the seventh inning off with a single up the middle to give the Bulls a chance to tie the game. With one out and Tarantino on first, Fernimen had an infield single to put two Bulls on the basepaths. The game ended as the Eagles then turned another double-play to get out of the jam.
Β
The Bulls are back in action on Friday, March 15 when they're on the road at the Bowling Green Falcons.
