Bulls Embark on Final Regular Season Road Trip to Kent State on Saturday

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo women's basketball team (16-10, 9-6 MAC) embarks on their final road trip of the regular season as they travel to Kent State for a clash with the Golden Flashes on Saturday at 1pm.
The game will be streamed on ESPN+ with Dan Griffin (play-by-play) and Normandie Berl (color) announcing and can be heard on the radio on 1400 AM or on the Varsity Network with Jack Kreuzer on the call.
This is the 47th overall meeting between Buffalo and Kent State with the Golden Flashes owning a 33-23 series advantage. The Bulls fell 73-64 in the first meeting of the season at Alumni Arena.
Buffalo punched their ticket to the 2024 Mid-American Conference Tournament with a dominant 70-55 win at Bowling Green on Wednesday night. Redshirt senior guard Chellia Watson led the Bulls with 20 points. Senior Rana Elhusseini tied her UB career-high with 16 points to go with eight rebounds and five assists and Kirsten Lewis-Williams also scored in double figures with 14 points. Fellow freshman Alexis Davis narrowly missed out on a double-double with eight points and eight rebounds.
Watson, a five-time MAC Player of the Week, leads the league and ranks fourth in the nation in scoring at 23.1 points per game to go with 5.5 rebounds and 3.2 assists per contest. She also ranks in the top 15 nationally in field goals made (234), field goals made per game (9.0) and total points (600). Lewis-Williams currently ranks 13th in the MAC in scoring (11.9 ppg) and 18th in rebounding (5.2 rpg), which is first and third, respectively, among all rookies in the league in those categories. Elhusseini (8.6 ppg, 3.4 apg) and sophomore Hattie Ogden (7.9 ppg, 4.8 rpg) continue to be impact players for UB while Davis leads the Bulls in rebounding (6.3 rpg).
As a team, Buffalo leads the MAC in field goal defense (.381) and three-point field goal defense (.272) while also ranking in the top four in the league in scoring defense (61.8), scoring margin (+4.5), free throw percentage (.725), defensive rebounding (26.8) and assist-to-turnover ratio (1.9). The Bulls are averaging 33 points per game in the paint while also turning defense into offense, averaging 14 points per contest off opponent's turnovers.
The Kent State Golden Flashes are 17-8 overall and 12-3 in league action after defeating after defeating Eastern Michigan 76-64 on Wednesday. The Golden Flashes are led offensively by preseason All-MAC First Team selection Katie Shumate who is averaging 15.2 points and 7.1 rebounds per game. Jenna Batsch (13.8 ppg) is also averaging in double figures while Janae Tyler (9.0 ppg) and Mikala Morris (8.2 ppg) are also main contributors. Shumate leads Kent State in scoring and rebounding and is currently ranked in the top 10 in program history in scoring, three-point field goals and blocks.
As a team, Kent State leads the MAC in rebounding margin (+5.9) while ranking second in scoring offense (72.8), field goal defense (.384), rebounding defense (34.4) and turnover margin (+3.0) and third in scoring defense (61.5 ppg), 3FG defense (.294), scoring margin (+11.3), free throw percentage (.721), rebounding (40.4) and blocks per game (3.5). Since the start of the 2016-17 season, Kent State is 15th in the nation in free throws per game (14.15), 27th in free throws made (3,296).
