Bulls Travel to Ohio for Final Regular Season Road Series

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The University at Buffalo women's volleyball team (14-13, 10-4 MAC) will travel to Athens, Ohio to face the Ohio Bobcats (12-13, 8-6 MAC) for a weekend series. Matches will begin Friday night at 6 p.m. with the weekend wrapping up on Saturday at 3 p.m. Both matches will be aired on ESPN+. Headed into the weekend, the Bulls are tied for third place in the Mid-American Conference standings with Western Michigan with 10-4 records.
The all-time series against Ohio has been in favor of the Bobcats as they lead the series, 44-8. In the last four meetings, the Bulls and Bobcats have split the matches. Head Coach Scott Smith is 3-8 against Ohio in his tenure at Buffalo. The last time the Bulls were in Athens, Ohio in 2022, they picked up their first win over the Bobcats since 2018.
The Bobcats were picked fifth in the MAC Preseason Coaches' Poll with 84 points, just behind the Bulls' 92 points. Last season they tied the Bulls for the MAC East Division Title with a 13-5 conference record.
The Bulls are coming off a weekend sweep over the Northern Illinois Huskies. With their wins over Northern Illinois, the Bulls have now won 10+ MAC matches in three consecutive seasons for the first time in program history. Buffalo has now won four straight against the Huskies.
On Monday, the MAC announced their weekly honors where Abby Leigh took home MAC Offensive Player of the Week honors. The sixth-year middle blocker was very efficient on the attack as she hit .490 on the week with 28 kills and 3 errors on 51 attempts. She recorded her 17th career error-free match on Friday with 10 kills on 20 attempts. She averaged 4.00 kills per set on the week. In the MAC, she was the only player on the week to finish top-five in both hitting percentage and kills per set, fourth in both categories. She also added seven blocks against the Huskies, good for 1.00 blocks per set. In total she had 32.0 points, resulting in 4.57 points per set.
Fifth year Katrin Trebichavska leads the MAC and is 12th nationally in aces per set with 0.57. On the season, she has 46 which is 14th in the country. The outside hitter is currently tied for seventh in program history with 172 career aces. The Bulls are 14th in the nation with 179 total aces, which is also the top-mark in the MAC.
Abby Leigh leads the team with a .396 hitting percentage that is good for 22nd in the nation and third in the MAC. In just conference play, she is hitting .393, good for third in the MAC.
Following this weekend, the Bulls are back home for the final regular season weekend as they host the Eastern Michigan Eagles (13-13, 7-7 MAC). They'll face the Eagles on Friday, Nov. 15 and Saturday, Nov. 16. The team will honor Mandy Leigh and Maria Futey on Saturday for Senior Day.
