Bulls Clinch MAC Tournament Berth with Win Over Eastern Michigan

BUFFALO, N.Y. – For the third straight season, the University at Buffalo women's volleyball team (15-15, 11-6 MAC) clinched a berth into the MAC Championship Tournament with a 3-1 (25-13, 25-23, 21-25, 25-19) victory over the visiting Eastern Michigan Eagles (13-18, 7-10 MAC).
Katrin Trebichavska and Manoela Forlin led the Bulls with 13 kills each. Abby Leigh had her 17th career error free performance with 9 kills on 19 attacks, good for a .474 hitting percentage.
Mandy Leigh earned her 12th double-double of the season with 39 assists and 15 digs. Maria Futey and Keira Kleidon had 16 and 14 digs, respectively. Tehya Shaw had 5 total blocks on the night. Also recording blocks were A. Leigh (4), M. Leigh (3), Luli Arcucci (2) and Forlin (1).
The Bulls continued to rack up the aces on their home court as they added 12 to their season total.
Even though neither team found a groove on the offensive attack, the Bulls ran away with the first set. The Bulls outhit the Eagles, .056 to -.073. Eastern Michigan finished with 18 total errors in the set, 6 of which came from Buffalo's serves. The Bulls jumped out to an 8-1 lead after A. Leigh gave them a 6-0 run with 3 aces. Buffalo won the set, 25-13.
Buffalo found their groove in the second set as they hit .286 to Eastern Michigan's .080. The Bulls doubled the Eagles' kill total, 16-8. Buffalo's largest lead in the set came at 15-10 at the media timeout. The Bulls' had 4 service errors in the set that kept the Eagles in the set. Buffalo didn't trail the rest of the set as they squeaked out a 25-23 win.
Buffalo's offense struggled in the third set as they hit -.025. Despite their offensive attack, the Bulls led 20-16. Eastern Michigan closed the set on a 9-1 run to win, 25-21.
In the fourth set, Buffalo was back as they had 17 kills to Eastern Michigan's 9. After trailing 2-0, the Bulls didn't trail the rest of the way. They outhit the Eagles, .262 to .081. Forlin had a set-high .417 hitting percentage to go with her 6 kills. Buffalo won the set, 25-19.
The Bulls are back in action tomorrow against the Eastern Michigan Eagles for Senior Day.
