Bulls Host Eastern Michigan to Close Out Regular Season

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The University at Buffalo women's volleyball team (14-15, 10-6 MAC) will host the Eastern Michigan Eagles (13-17, 7-9 MAC) for a weekend series. Matches will begin Friday night at 6 p.m. with the weekend wrapping up on Saturday at 4 p.m. Both matches will be aired on ESPN+. This will mark the end of the regular season, and the team will honor their two seniors in Maria Futey and Mandy Leigh.
The all-time series against Eastern Michigan has been in favor of the Eagles as they lead the series, 22-9, but the Bulls are winners of the last three meetings, including eight of the last 10. Head Coach Scott Smith is 4-2 against Eastern Michigan in his tenure at Buffalo. Buffalo picked up a sweep last season against the Eagles in their lone meeting.
The Eagles were picked 11th in the MAC Preseason Coaches' Poll with 22 points. Last season they finished with an 5-25 overall record.
The Bulls are coming off a two-loss weekend to the hands of the Ohio Bobcats on the road. The Bulls look to get back in the win column this weekend against the Eagles. With a win, the Bulls will clinch a spot in the upcoming MAC Tournament.
Dating back to last season, the Bulls have the best home record of all MAC teams at 21-2 (.913). The Bulls out-muscle their opponents in Alumni Arena. In 2024, Buffalo has outhit the opposition .271 to .147 while averaging 4.26 more kills per set (14.08 to 9.82). Buffalo is +36 in aces against the visitors (95-59).
Fifth year Katrin Trebichavska leads the MAC and is 15th nationally in aces per set with 0.53. On the season, she has 47 which is 21st in the country. The outside hitter is currently sixth in program history with 173 career aces. The Bulls are 22nd in the nation with 186 total aces, which is also second in the MAC.
Abby Leigh leads the team with a .389 hitting percentage that is good for 31st in the nation and third in the MAC. In just conference play, she is hitting .383, good for fourth in the MAC.
Seniors Maria Futey and Mandy Leigh had had great collegiate careers at Buffalo. M. Leigh is the program record holder in career assists with 4,520 while averaging 10.044 assists per set. She is also ninth in digs with 1,148. With three sets played, M. Leigh will tie Tracey Quider (1983-86) for most sets played with 453. Futey is third all-time in career digs with 1,596, just four digs away becoming the third player in program history to reach 1,600 digs. She's fourth in digs per set at 3.432 and seventh in sets played with 465. The high school teammates will play in Alumni Arena one last time against the Eagles.
