Bulls Host Bryant on Thursday Evening

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The University at Buffalo men's basketball team (2-1, 0-0 MAC) will host the Bryant Bulldogs (1-1, 0-0 AE) for their first ever meeting on Thursday evening. Paul Peck and UB Wall of Famer Turner will be on the call on ESPN+ with tip-off at 7 p.m. Josh Whetzel and Bob Gaughan can be heard on the Varsity Network or on the radio on Buffalo 1520/Rochester 1280.
LAST TIME OUT
The Bulls are coming off an 86-77 loss at Notre Dame on Monday evening. In the first ever meeting between the programs, the Bulls led at the half, 40-38. Bryson Wilson recorded his first career double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds. Ryan Sabol added 18 points as he knocked down 4 three-pointers on the night. Freshman Ben Michaels scored a career-high 14 points as he was 4-for-7 from deep. In his first collegiate action, Frederiks Meinarts scored 10 points while adding 3 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 steal in just over 11 minutes of action. Tyson Dunn continues to lead the team in assists as he added 9 against the Fighting Irish.
ABOUT THE SERIES
This will mark the first ever meeting between Buffalo and Bryant. Historically, the Bulls are 31-22 (.585) against teams from the America East. The last time Buffalo played a team from the America East was on Dec. 30, 2017, when they hosted the Maine Black Bears. The Bulls won, 79-60.
THE BULL-ETIN BOARD
On Monday afternoon, Dunn earned MAC Player of the Week honors as he recorded a double-double and a triple-double in his first two games with the Bulls. On Tuesday afternoon, the U.S. Basketball Writers of American (USBWA) announced that he was one of their five Oscar Robertson National Players of the Week.
Sabol has made 13 three-pointers on the season that ranks him sixth in the country and good for the top spot in the MAC. His 4.33 three-pointers per game is 16th in the country and first in the MAC.
Dunn's 33 total assists is second in the country behind Pacific's Lamar Washington's 37 assists. His 11.0 assists per game is first in all of college basketball.
Dunn is the only player in Division I to record a triple-double on the season.
The Bulls are 1-1 in games played on Nov. 11th in the program's history. The Bulls defeated South Dakota State in 2014, 69-67, but lost the #11 Xavier Musketeers on the road, 86-53.
For the second game in a row, the Bulls will play a school they have never played before. On Monday, Nov. 11, they played at Notre Dame and on Thursday, Nov. 14, they'll host the Bryant Bulldogs.
A Buffalo win would give the Bulls a 3-1 start to the season, their best start since 2018-19 when they started the season 11-0.
The last time the Bulls started 2-0 at home came in the 2021-22 season with wins over Rider (Nov. 20) and Point Park (Nov. 29).
Buffalo has made at least 10 threes in three consecutive games for the first time since the opening three games of the 2019-20 season. The last time the Bulls have made 10+ three-pointers in four straight games was in January of 2018 against Miami (OH) (Jan. 13), Northern Illinois (Jan. 16), Western Michigan (Jan. 19) and Eastern Michigan (Jan. 23). Their 10.3 three-pointers per game ranks tied for 71st as their 31 made threes is tied for 46th in the country.
The Bulls have recorded double-doubles in three straight games courtesy of Tyson Dunn (2) and Bryson Wilson (1). At the end of last season, they had four consecutive games with a double-double: Eastern Michigan (2/20/24), at Western Michigan (2/24/24), at Kent State (2/27/24), Toledo (3/2/24).
Tyson Dunn leads the team with 33 assists on the season. In just three games, he is over a third of the way to last year's leader in assists in Isaiah Adams who had 95.
