BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo women's basketball team (2-0) embarks on its first road trip of the season as they travel to Princess Anne for a clash with the Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks on Wednesday night.
The game will be streamed on the Delmarva Sports Network with Luke Meli (play-by-play) and Frankie Allen (color) announcing and can be heard on ESPN 1520 and the Varsity Network with Jack Kreuzer on the call.
This is the seventh overall meeting between Buffalo and UMES with the Bulls owning a perfect 6-0 record, most recently a 70-61 win at Alumni Arena last year.
Buffalo put on a show for the fans in attendance at Alumni Arena as they dominated on both ends of the floor and rolled to a record-breaking 123-44 win over Buffalo State. The Bulls set numerous single-game records including most points scored (123), largest margin of victory (79), field goals made (48), field goal percentage (.706) and assists (29).
All 12 players that saw the floor scored on the night, led by Chellia Watson with a game-high 26 points. Sophomore Kirsten Lewis-Williams and senior Terah Harness scored 16 each while sophomores Alexis Davis and Paula Lopez added 12 apiece and fifth year guard Noelani Cornfield recorded a career-high 10 assists.
The Bulls dominated in every statistical category as they scored 68 points in the paint, while scoring 61 points off 39 Buffalo State miscues and adding 37 fastbreak points and 28 second chance points. UB shot 70% from the field and 50% from deep on the night.
While the Bulls return just five players overall, those players include three starters and 70% of the offensive production from a squad that earned a trip to the Mid-American Conference Tournament championship game and a postseason WNIT appearance. Buffalo then added six transfers and three freshmen to its 14-player roster.
Maryland Eastern Shore is 1-1 overall after defeating Bowie State 65-57 on Saturday afternoon. The Hawks were picked to finish sixth in the preseason MEAC coaches poll. Mahogany Lester earned a spot on the preseason All-MEAC Second Team after averaging 7.4 points per game across 30 starts while shooting 47.5% from the floor. Zamara Haynes earned her spot on the preseason Third Team All-MEAC after a season in which she averaged 8.6 points per game, while playing in all 30 games. The Hawks have a veteran core of eight players returning, including three transfers, three graduate students, two seniors, seven juniors, one sophomore and one freshman.
Up next, Buffalo returns home to host Cedarville on Monday, November 18 at 6pm.
