
Bulls Go Down with a Fight at Notre Dame

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – In the first ever meeting between the Bulls and the Fighting Irish, it was a battle until the very end as Notre Dame (2-0, 0-0 ACC) came out with an 86-77 win on Monday evening. The University at Buffalo men's basketball team (2-1, 0-0 MAC) fell short on the evening as Notre Dame handed them their first loss on the season.
Ryan Sabol led the Bulls with 18 points as he was 6-for-13 from the floor including 4 three-pointers. Bryson Wilson recorded his first career double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds. Freshman Ben Michaels continued to score in double-figures as he finished with 14 points, a new career high.
Tyson Dunn kept distributing the ball as he had 9 assists on the night to go with his 7 rebounds and 9 points.
The Bulls' defense on the perimeter held Notre Dame to just 5-for-20. Buffalo was 11-for-34 from three-point range. This was their third straight game where they made at least 10 threes.
Tim Oboh put the Bulls on the scoreboard first with a three-pointer to put the Bulls in front, 3-0. Oboh continued to score as he had Buffalo's first 5 points to tie the game at 5. After going back-and-forth, Buffalo was able to extend their lead. Frederiks Meinarts drilled his first collegiate shot from deep to extend Buffalo's lead to 27-23. Notre Dame managed to take a 38-37 lead with 32-seconds left in the half. Before the halftime horn, Sabol drilled another three with just seconds to go. He finished with 15 points headed into the locker room.
Notre Dame came out of the half on fire as they went on a 17-2 run to take a 55-42 lead. The Fighting Irish extended their lead to 20 at 62-42, the largest lead of the game, but the Bulls never gave in. With under 8 minutes to go, the Bulls cut the deficit to single digits as Michaels made 3 three-pointers in three consecutive possessions. Buffalo got within 7 points, but couldn't get by the deficit.
Up next the Bulls will host the Bryant Bulldogs on Thursday evening at 7 p.m.
