Bulls Host the Huskies for Weekend Series

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The University at Buffalo women's volleyball team (12-13, 8-4 MAC) will host the Northern Illinois Huskies (3-18, 1-10 MAC) for a weekend series. Matches will begin Friday night at 6 p.m. with the weekend wrapping up on Saturday at 4 p.m. Both matches will be aired on ESPN+. Headed into the weekend, the Bulls are in fourth place on the Mid-American Conference standings at 8-4.
The all-time series against Northern Illinois has been in favor of the Huskies as they lead the series, 21-9, but the Bulls are winners of the last two meetings. Head Coach Scott Smith is 4-4 against Northern Illinois in his tenure at Buffalo. Buffalo picked up a 3-1 win last season in DeKalb, Ill. as the teams only met once.
The Huskies were picked eighth in the MAC Preseason Coaches' Poll with 49 points. Last season they finished with an 8-22 overall record.
The Bulls are coming off a two-loss weekend to the hands of the Central Michigan Chippewas. Buffalo fell on Friday, 3-1, but nearly completed a reverse sweep on Saturday before falling, 3-2. Despite the results, the Bulls had a handful of milestones reached. Mandy Leigh broke the program record in career assists as she is now up to 4,374. Maria Futey is now third in program history with 1,542 career digs. She's just the fourth Bull in program history to surpass 1,500 digs. Katrin Trebichavska has over 1,000 kills in her UB career and will climb the all-time kills list. Abby Leigh set the program record for sets played in a career with 507 and is just three kills shy of reaching 1,000 career kills.
Dating back to last season, the Bulls have the best home record of all MAC teams at 19-2 (.905). The Bulls out-muscle their opponents in Alumni Arena. In 2024, Buffalo has outhit the opposition .266 to .132 while averaging 4.78 more kills per set (14.03 to 9.25). Buffalo is +35 in aces against the visitors (77-44).
Buffalo is the only team in the MAC to have three players in the top-10 in points per set. Katrin Trebichavska has the second-best mark in the MAC with 4.87 points per set as Manoela Forlin is eighth (3.80) and Abby Leigh is 10th (3.69).
Fifth year Katrin Trebichavska leads the MAC and is 16th nationally in aces per set with 0.54. On the season, she has 40 aces which is 15th in the country. The outside hitter is currently eighth in program history with 166 career aces. As a team, the Bulls are 17th in the nation with 163 total aces, which is also the top-mark in the MAC.
Abby Leigh leads the team with a .385 hitting percentage that is good for 30th in the nation and second in the MAC. In just conference play, she is hitting .372, good for fourth in the MAC.
Following this weekend, the Bulls are on the road at Ohio (10-12, 6-5 MAC) for their final regular season road weekend. They'll face the Bobcats on Friday, Nov. 8 and Saturday, Nov. 9.
