Bulls Head To MAC Cross Country Championships To Compete Saturday

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo cross country team is headed to Muncie, Indiana to compete in the 2024 Mid-American Conference Championships. The conference championships are set to begin on Saturday afternoon, with the women's 6k race starting at 11 am and the men's 8k at 12 pm.
The Buffalo men enter conference championships holding the 15th spot in the Northeast Region. Only three other MAC schools hold a regional ranking heading into conference championships on the men's side, all in the Great Lakes region. Toledo has the 10th spot in the region, just ahead of Miami of Ohio in 11th and Eastern Michigan in 13th.
The Bulls earned their regional ranking following a strong weekend at Lehigh University's Paul Short Invitational, finishing 21st of 44 teams and placing ahead of several regionally ranked teams including UMBC, Bucknell, Central Connecticut, Monmouth and Rutgers.
The Buffalo men have shared the spotlight throughout the season. Jacob Brink was most recently the team's top finisher at the Canisius Alumni Classic, mapping the 8k course in 24:23.6 to win the race with a new personal best time. At the Paul Short Invite 8k it was Noah Brightman who placed first for the Bulls with a new personal best time of 24:35.9 to finish inside the top 75 in a field of 366 student-athletes. Evan Hilbert has been a mainstay in the top five for the Bulls too, placing just behind Brightman to take 75th with a new personal best time of 24:36.4. Hilbert's placed inside the Buffalo top five in all three races he's competed in this season. Matt Gensel has been another consistent top five finisher for Buffalo, also placing inside the team's top five at all three meets he's competed at this season.
Freshman Collin Stafford has come on strong late in the season for the Bulls, finishing inside the team's top five at the Canisius Alumni Classic with a personal record time of 25:19.3. Stafford was also Buffalo's sixth runner to finish at the Paul Short Invitational, finishing just a second behind Gabriel Cornfield. Cornfield cracked the top five at Lehigh with a time of 25:31.4. Graduate student Sean O'Brien has also been strong for the Bulls, most recently earning a podium finish at the Canisius Alumni Classic with a time of 25:29.7.
Just a year ago the Buffalo men took fourth at MAC Championships, a mark in which the team intends to improve following the 11th consecutive season the program has earned a regional ranking.
On the women's side, the Bulls are coming off a strong performance at the Canisius Alumni Classic. The Bulls finished third at the competition, with four of five runners setting new personal records on the 5k course.
Lacey Danilovitz has headlined for the Bulls for most of the season, being the first Buffalo runner to place in all four of the races she's competed in. The sophomore has posted two top ten finishes too, taking seventh at the Canisius Alumni Classic with a personal best 5k time of 18:12.5 and ninth at the Harry Lang Invitational with a 5k time of 19:01.02.
Bronagh Cassidy has been a mainstay in the Bulls' top five finishers. The junior has placed inside Buffalo's top three in all three races she's competed in this season. Cassidy also posted a top 10 finish at the Canisius Alumni Classic with a personal best time of 18:18.6 and a top 20 finish at the Harry Lang Invite with a time of 19:37.8. The now junior placed 45th at last year's conference championships with a 6k time of 22:22.21.
Vassi Klock is another returner who has come on strong for the Bulls. Klock competed at last year's MAC Championships, finishing 62nd and placing inside Buffalo's top five with a 6k time of 22:45.33. Klock most recently earned a top 15 finish at the Canisius Alumni Classic with a 5k time of 18:47.3. The junior also finished inside the Bulls top five at the Paul Short Invite, finishing the 6k course with a time of 23:15.6.
Eliza Medearis joined the Bulls before the season as a graduate transfer. In the opening meet of the season, Medearis set a new 5k personal record time of 19:44.6 and earned a top 20 finish. The graduate student has continued to be a staple in the Buffalo top five, most recently finishing 14th overall at the Canisius Alumni Classic with a time of 18:40.0, breaking her previous 5k personal record.
The Buffalo women head to MAC Championships with a young core of student-athletes, looking to improve on their ninth-place finish from a year ago. The field of competition on the women's side is strong, with Toledo (4th), Ohio (6th), Eastern Michigan (10th), Bowling Green (12th) and Central Michigan (14th) all holding rankings in the Great Lakes region.
